Please if anyone had any advice for me. Whenever I get sick, I get this tickle in my throat, and I literally cannot stop coughing until I'm hunched over, gagging.
It happened this morning and twice just now.

I can't do this tomorrow morning, I have my APUSH exam and I'll disrupt the entire room with a simple tiny cough, much less tears and retching.
does anyone know any medicine that will completely halt this cough, just to make it through the few hours?
or any breathing exercises to get through a cough attack? I'm absolutely desperate.

If it’s that serious, you should have registered to take it in a separate room because of illness, health conditions, etc. Now all yo u can do is find a remedy.

I would suggest drinking a big cup of HOT tea when you wake up or on your way to school. And more importantly, eat LOTS of warm honey in the morning. Put some honey in a bowl, heat it for a few seconds in the microwave, and then just eat it with a spoon. Sounds gross, but it’s the perfect solution for a sore/dry throat.

Honey has a certain compound which covers the inside of your larynx with a sort of wax, and the more you eat, the thicker the coating. This would be the best measure to prevent a tickle in your throat.

P.S. If you feel your throat still might be in bad condition, take the honey with you and squirt some in your mouth before the exam. I’m not joking. Kids on my Speech/Debate team used to do this when their throat acted up before rounds.

this cold has been pretty random, it came out of nowhere. it isn’t an ongoing problem.
is there anything else with the same consistency as honey that I could try? not sure there’s any in the house at the moment…

Maybe bring a thermos with hot tea? Is that allowed? Sorry you have this, just one more thing to worry about on an already super stressful day :/.

not sure, might just try water. not cold water right?
i’m just anxious everyone’s going to be completely unfocused because of the girl hacking up a lung in the back of the room…

Ricola original flavor cough drops. You know, the square ones. Honey is the best option, but I’m not sure an entire bowl of it would do anything but make you vomit. Try a few teaspoons throughout the day. Be VERY careful as to what types of hot tea you drink. Some may even make it worse. Only drink non-caffeinated tea, preferably with a hint of lemon, peppermint, licorice, or slippery elm bark. Do NOT drink coffee unless you absolutely must to stay awake. Avoid cinnamon, milk, apple juice, sugar, chocolate, peanuts, and bananas. If hot tea isn’t available drink plenty of room temperature water - it’s essential to stay hydrated. Take some Zinc and Vitamin C tablets in the morning, and eat healthy and natural. Apples and toast are always good, but throw in some protein somewhere as well. It keeps the mind moving through those long exams.

Ok well I didn’t mean an ENTIRE bowl of honey. I meant put it in a bowl for the purpose of heating it in the microwave. Can you buy some honey from a store around you really quick or in the morning? It’s really the best option for throat issues. I feel cough drops might agitate it, because you said it was a “tickle” not a sore throat.

Besides, honey is an essential baking ingredient. Always good to have around the house…

I do that every time I get sick. I swear by Delsym cough syrup and Worther’s Originals. If you can have cough drops, surely you can have a pile of Worther’s next to you. You could even unwrap them before the exam starts. Much tastier, too.

thanks everyone! wish me luck…
