HELP! Crazy low GPA

Okay, so I graduated highschool in '06 with a 3.80. I was basically a total nerd; took a bunch of AP classes (though only passed one test due to a serious case of senioritis), was in all honors, I pretty much felt like I was awesome, lmao. Graduated 23/150, thought I was pretty damn cool. But then I went into the real world and things got dicey. I went off to a party school (UMass Amherst) and as you might expect, partied... way too much. Took a heavy courseload and was irresponsible and immature. I passed 2 classes, one from each semester; Philosophy and Physics. Then I was on academic suspension and wasn't allowed to come back the following semester.

I went to a community college, commuted from home. Learned my lesson and did well the first semester: A,B,A,C-. The 2nd semester was going fantastic until the final month when I came down with a really confusing medical issue. I was sick one week, good the next. My teachers didn't believe my health really. Neither would I considering how off and on I was. Then it got real bad, and I was in and out of the hospital for a few weeks (found out it was actually mono & strep at the same time). Needless to say, I missed finals and the last few weeks of school. Stupidly, I thought there was nothing I could do and the semester was a complete waste. In all honesty, all the absences even before the hospitalization would have caused atleast one F even if I was healthy for the final.

Anyway, after doing some reading recently, I found that sometimes you can get your grades turned to W's even after the fact for medical reasons. I have called the school's registrar but she told me there was nothing I could do this far away from the semester (it was Spring '08). I left a msg with another person at the school but I don't know where I'm going to get with this. I have doctors and hospital records I could dig up if they need it.

Anyway... as it stands, my GPA is a 1.3 after 2yrs of classes. Even if I get straight A's in 3 straight semesters, I can't bring it up to a 2.5. HOW on Earth am I going to transfer into a 4yr college? Do they take these sorts of things into account? If I do 2 good semesters, can I possibly get a transfer even if my GPA is crap?

Please ease my mind cause I'm thinking the worst right now.

Thank you!
