Ok ive posted about this before but I havent been able to make progress. Im like in a dilemma. For my project we have to make a magazine about the play "Inherit the Wind". Part of it is we have to make a soundtrack list for movie version of the play and say why each song is relevant to the play's message. I am finding this literally impossible. If you don't know the play is about a trial where a teacher is on trial for teaching evolution in Tennessee back in the fifties. So the themes are: Creationism vs. Evolution, The right to think/free thought, and about how the two ideas dont have to be mutually exclusive to one another.

ANy ideas would help a lot. or advice. or suggestions for websites to look at. Really i just need something.

well, if you want weird music that directly addresses the conflict, you could try http://www.soundclick.com/pro/view/01/default.cfm?bandid=295382&content=main&songid=0.

there's a lot of music around the idea of free thought... I personally really like the song "Die Gedanken sind Frei," (Thoughts are Free) even though I'm not entirely sure that people sing it while sober. There's an... interesting rock version by Hekate that might fit.

They Might Be Giants might have something good for a general "science-y" feel. If you want fuel for a long-winded explanation, a "theme and variations" piece with some religious association might be good for the "not mutually exclusive" theme, even though the metaphor actually doesn't hold up that well.

that movie was bad...the new one was anyway..the reverand was SCARY..sry i cant be of any help

yes he is scary. thanks for the suggestions flier i may use them. i guess i dunno i was lookin for sumthin like maybe more subtle?? and more well-known. i dunno im just picky i guess and im obviously retarded at this. haha,.

nah, you're right, subtlety would make a lot more sense... watching a movie where there soundtrack hit you over the head with the point would be pretty painful. i was just thowing some ideas out.

no thanks thoughh i just i guess really have to look hard.

meaning the Scopes trial, right? You might also add one of those beautiful old-fashioned hymns for the 'creationism' viewpoint.
