I need help on where to transfer. I would LOVE to attend CSULB but I am not sure which CSU has a better nutrition and dietetic program and can't find info on it anywhere. I live in Bakersfield and I don't want to go too far and I narrowed it down to these two. I would think that CSULB would be a more accredited school but I really don't know much. and CSU Bakersfield is out of the question, they don't have my program and I would really like to leave this place, even if it's only for a few years.

(me) info
A.S. in Culinary Arts
Transfer Student
Young Home Owner
Major - Nutrition and Dietetics
Home town - Bakersfield, CA
Have to work full time regardless of where I attend college.

CSULB
I love Long Beach! Great weather. Lots to do. Good dietetic program. Have connections for employment.

Problem - will have to rent out my house to move, but willing to do so.

CSU Fresno
Closer to home so I can commute 2 days a week, don't have to rent out my house.

Problem - it's Fresno....what's so great about Fresno? Isn't it just like a larger Bakersfield? Is it recognised as a good CSU?

I am already leaning for CSULB but if I decide for Long Beach I need some hard evidence for convincing my father of why it's a better choice, and worth leaving and renting out my home.

Any opinions or info on which school has a better program for my major, or besides the geographical differences, which school is the best?

But Fresno is so close to Yosemite and the High Sierras! Plus it has a great Football team. The students there have a lot of school spirit. Plus you would be able to remain in your home and not have to hassle with renting it out.

Fresno is too far, in my opinion, to commute from Bakersfield. 100 miles one way. Is that what you are considering doing?

How far is Fresno from Bakersfield? Isn’t that too far to commute? (about 100 miles??)

It sounds like you’re planning on taking all of your classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays to make the commute less frequent…

First of all, you may not be able to take all of your classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Secondly, if it is possible, it makes for a very long day - which would include 200 miles of traveling.

Fresno does have good football, but LB is the better school.

LB all the way! It’s a better school overall (not sure about your specific program), and like the others said it’s too far to commute from Bakersfield to Fresno every day. Your heart knows that you want to go to long beach, otherwise you wouldn’t be leaning that way.

How is football, or even sports, relevant to this conversation?
If you like CSULB, what really is there to decide?
In addition to this, I would think Long Beach would be a much better choice for your career interests as you’d be located in a major metro area. A couple of miles north you’d have Los Angeles.

CSULB! i can tell you obviously like it better than CSUF. no offense to fresno or anything, but some parts in fresno are seriously like the hood. it’s kind of scary.

The commute isn’t horrible, there isn’t really any traffic, it’s about an hour and a half and I can car pool but I REALLY rather not do so. I would commute 2 days a week. Long Beach has a higher cost of living but with commuting all the time I don’t know if I would really save much, my car would take a toll also.

I have heard great things about the Football team and school spirit but that’s not a big concern for me. I wont be the typical college student on campus all the time.

I see many opportunities in Long Beach and I would really love to live there. Fresno and Long Beach both have “hood” areas, but all cities do. I think Long Beach has more crime but it’s a bigger city and it’s by LA.

I really just want to know which college would look better on a resume, but I guess it really depends on which program is better, I’m just having a hard time finding that information.

Fresno is also a bit cheaper and has less students.

I have a choice of dry heat or beach, and finding out which program is more reputable.

I don’t think I would miss this 110 degree heat in the summer, that’s a plus :)

Long Beach will look better on the resume. And, they’ve had a good food science program forever.

What about San Jose State vs. Long Beach?
