Currently, I'm attending CSU Channel Island... really don't like it, but I want to switch over to Cal Poly Pomona. I am currently attending my freashman year this fall. Is it possible or do i need to wait two years? Any help will be GREATLY apprediated! THANKS!

try transferring this summer -- they started a full summer quarter this year. Once you are in, you are in....

Sorry, but Cal Poly Pomona only accepts upper division transfers - that means you need 60 units completed. Here's the link on their page explaining this: http://dsa.csupomona.edu/admissions/admrqrmnts_ftt.asp

However, some cal states do accept transfers with fewer credits (need at least 30) - go to the www.csumentor.edu site and research which ones.

thank you for all your help!

carolyn:

a friend of ours just started this past summer and he was woefully short of the 60 units -- had only completed one semester at a U.....bcos SLO had a new summer quarter with space available, they accepted him. But, of course, he was back of the line for fall housing.

I'm at Cal Poly Pomona and I don't really like it here a whole lot. The weather here isn't what I'm used to. The air quality sucks. It's hard not to take the freeway because there are like 4 freeways converging all in the same spot and traffic is a nightmare during rush hour. I live 2 miles from Cal Poly and sometimes it takes me 10 or 15 minutes to get to school. Parking right now is really bad. I have to park at the other end of campus and walk about a mile to class. Oh, rent here is bad too. My room mate and I are paying 1499 a month for a 2 bedroom plus all the utlitlies (although some people have 4 roommates in the same unit I'm in). You have to run your air conditioner like crazy during the summer. This is mostly a commuter campus, so most kids live off campus, like me. There is very limited dorms. A lot of kids couldn't get dorms. It seems as if this is everyone's backup school and arn't that happy to be here. Haha. Sometimes I feel that I'm too social for some of the kids here. I've met some pretty awesome people thus far, but that's because I tried really hard. This is actually my backup school. I applied to San Luis Obispo, but didn't get accepted.

I would like to transfer to SLO because of the surrounding community and climate(I like to be close to the beach). You do not want to go downtown Pomona at night. I've heard of gangs and what not. There's some bomb mexican food places down there though if you like mexican food.

Overall, the quality of my classroom experiences have been pretty good. I'm an Aerospace Engineering major. Cal Poly's engineering program is ranked 16th in the nation or west coast engineering schools. I forget which.

That's my honest opinion of Cal Poly Pomona.
