Hello,

I currently have 20 schools on my list and I need to cut it down. I am interested in majoring in aerospace engineering.

Stats
3.97 UW GPA
34 ACT
No Financial Restrictions
Solid EC's

I am leaning towards schools with diversity of major, school spirit, strong aerospace connections, and great college towns/campuses.

Reach
MIT
Princeton
Univ of Southern California
Cornell--only AE minor, but like the school
Michigan
Virginia--aerospace connections?
Wash. U in St. Louis--only AE minor, but loved the school

Match
Univ of Washington
Georgia Tech
Case Western--unsure, AE program is not too strong
Cal Poly--unsure
RPI--unsure, too techy?
Maryland--unsure

Saftey
Alabama--financial safety
Purdue
Ohio State--aerospace connections?
Embry Riddle--not much diversity of major or gender
Iowa State--easily get into AE major, too rural?
UC Boulder--prestigious enough?

For goodness sakes, how many safeties do you need??? Pick one that you know you can get into and would be happy to attend. Get rid of the others.

Matches: Keep the ones you like and get rid of the others.

Reaches: Split them into two groups - priority and non-priority. Do the priority app’s first, along with your matches and one safety. Then, if you have time left at the end, when everything else is done, do the non-priority reaches.

BTW, I only count 19.

As for FINANCIAL safeties, I think students should have 2-3 and this is why…

Come spring, you may find that your safety is your only affordable school. If you only have one safety, then you’ll feel railroaded into that school…bad for morale. If you have 2-3 fianncial safeties, then you’ll still have a choice to make…and choice is GOOD!!

Also, in the spring, you may find that you don’t care much for one of your safeties…you don’t want that to possibly be your only workable choice.

You have 6 safeties. Eliminate ALL that you’re not 100% sure that you have all costs covered. If you’re not certain that you have all costs covered, then those schools are NOT safeties.
