Help! D in Pre-Calc

I'm in 10th grade have a D in pre-calculus honors. I've always been a Straight-A student in math, but not only am I almost failing, but I'm the only D in the class. Anyways, we're done with pre-calc this semester and next semester we're studying Calculus AB (so that junior year we'll be in AP Calculus BC).

Things were just going a little too fast for me and I was struggling to balance AP Chemistry and other honors classes, so I didn't prioritize this class as much as I should have. I don't know what to do, because I really want to get into a decent UC school.

Should I retake it at a community college? I can't drive and classes go from February all the way until June. Summer at a cc will take up my whole summer! HELP! What should I do?

study more.

study more and do **** loads of math problems, :)

I was always awful in math classes - until I got to calculus. It’s different for everyone, but I actually found calculus to be easier than pre-calc. I would say keep going, see if you can find an upperclassmen to tutor you for cheap through the semester. Don’t be afraid to stay after school and work with your teacher if she/he is willing. Work hard to keep priorities straight. I always found that math was one of the easiest subjects to fall behind in.
And don’t worry about your summer being eaten up by classes- most college classes on MWF are between 50 minutes to an hour, and on T TH from an hour 15 minutes to an hour and a half, although it could be different for summer semester. Chances are you’ll only have the class two or three times a week and spend a half hour to an hour on the material per day.
Keep your head up! You’ll be fine.

My advice is to get a tutor, which won’t be much more than a CC class, to get you caught up and bring your grade as high as you can before the year-end. If you can get it up to a B- (which should be possible), don’t sweat CC.

If you still can’t, then yes, do CC, because you will need to get over this hurdle to “get” calc, and you sound like you really want to continue this path.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions
So 1st semester was over and I got a D, but this class is weighted in UC’s so it turns out to be a C
I’m going to try harder this semester and hopefully get at least a B!

Ask your guidance counselor or Math Dept Head for a peer tutor. If not in your high school then go to the next town.

Does that mean originally you got an F which became a D? And that is really not good, for a core subject, I really commend you do something about it.

^^No haha I think OP originally had a D and then ended up with a C bc of the way it was weighted? Either way, you need to study more, kid. :/

Yeah, I got a D which is weighted to a C. I’ll definitely study harder this semester though.
