Really torn between these two. plan to study economics/math. Williams seems to be stronger academically(from what I read so far), but I'm not sure about living in a faraway rural place for four years. Also, Dart seems to have very great food!! Really a tough decision esp. since I'm not very sure of what I want most from college. (posted the same thing on williams forum, in need of views from both sides!)

Williams seems to be stronger academically(from what I read so far)

from who? most people Ive talked to belive dartmouth is, but thats besides the point

I think the two schools are fairly equal academically overall, although I believe the two schools have different departmental strengths (Dartmouth for business, Williams for history, etc.)

Forget departmental strengths. WAY overblown by high school students! I never really felt the effects of the top b-school, its irrelevant. That said, wherever you heard williams is better academically is just patently false. I know many Williams alums who loved it, but they honestly said going back they wish they had picked Dartmouth. There's the same community but a much more diverse and larger social scene.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Worry about:

-student atmosphere
-flexibility in managing your academic curriculum
-academic and outside support
-any extracurriculars you are particularly interested in
-opportunities for funding (for ANYTHING- research, starting new clubs)
-the surrounding area
-size
-bureaucratic red tape

Those are things I wish I had paid more attention to in the college admissions process. Got lucky and ended up here, but it easily could have gone awry
