I am currently a high school senior and am applying to UT, A&M, UH, & UTD. Money is not an issue as my parents paid my tuition over time through the Texas Tomorrow fund. I'm in the top 15% of my graduating class so my chances at being accepted into UT are slimmer than all my other options. My first choice would be UT and if they offered me CAP I would consider it. However CAPing would only guanrantee admission to Natural Science, which math would be my second choice major. I'm applying to the Natural Science school and hope that I will admitted through that school and have an aspiration to transfer to the engineering school, however hard that may be. I'm more than certain I'll get accepted into all the other schools I'm applying to and would apply to each engineering school. My second choice is UH as Houston is a big city and thats the atmoshpere that I'm looking for. And UH, besides A&M, seems like it would give me a good college experience where as UTD is a major commuter school and seems rather boring. A&M & UTD are my last options as UTD may offer a good education and less of an experience and A&M is a cult I do not want to fall in to, also College Station is in the middle of nowhere and I personally do not want to live but it's education can may as well compromise my personal preference. Job prospects look fairly good for a graduate from each school. Recap 1.UT (maybe CAP) 2. UH 3. A&M 4. UTD. If I could get feedback from all schools perspective to help me decide that would be great!

I’ll put up test scores and GPA when I send in final applications so you all can assess a little better on my chances.

I’m in a similar boat as you (except business major) and I keep going back and forth on applying to A&M mainly because of the location and it seems to have a cult like atmosphere haha. When I talked to a rep from UH he was telling me how they were really building up the campus and how it’s not a commuter school anymore so that is exciting. UTD has a crazy cool looking campus but I don’t think there is much school spirit there. I will probably do CAP and go to Arlington for the one year

Yeah, if I were to CAP it would be at UTA. Currently I’m leaning more toward UH. It’s becoming a Tier 1 university and the campus is also improving. However I’ll still keep my hope up about UT and highly consider CAPing. I need to visit the UTD and UTA campuses. Location is pretty high on my criteria so I feel you on A&M.

Fernando,

I would have you consider another route. When you apply to UT, put in a second choice major that is traditionally easier to get into Education, Social Work, Undecided, etc. Get accepted, then go to UT and get great grades in all those general courses you need for TX core. (The courses you would be taking while at UTA in the CAP program - without the hassle of changing schools and spending a year in limbo.)

Another suggestion is to look into the school of Geosciences. I recall when we were on the campus tour, the guide talked about the Jackson School of Geosciences PAYING students for good grades. This sounds like a good school to apply to to gain admission. Then take the weed out math and science classes required for Engineering and take it from there. Good luck!

Well that’s why I’m initially applying to the Natural Science school but I’ll put the Geoscience school as my second choice. @lots2do what do you think of UH, be honest. It’s ever growing campus and research activity is pretty appealing especially if I don’t get in to UT. However UT still remains my top priority I want input from you about UH. Side note, for my graduating class it’s top 7%, for next years class they raised it back up to 8-9%, how convenient. I would’ve been admitted if I was apart of the next graduating class, major bummer. Although the dropout rate at my school has skewed our rankings quite a bit as well but my sister is almost guaranteed admission as she’ll be a senior next year. I’ll sing the blues while I walk that stage this June.
