I got LA Regents but failed to get the berkeley RCS after interviewing for it....

So now I have a tough choice. Attend the #1 public school in the nation or attend LA with Regents..which would look better for a MED school app?

just so you know...LA regents is given to only top 100, while Berk regents 200.

i'd say go for la, but then again, i'm just biased. but la isn't that far behind cal in most rankings, and regent's will give you plenty of privileges in college life and all the connections you need for rec letters and internships.

What's your source?

Students who perform well at either school do very well. You probably did very well in high school (as you got the Regents from UCLA), and the benefits of the award are something to consider. How differently med adcoms will look at you because it says you were a regents scholar? With equivalent stats, maybe it would come into play, but otherwise, your GPA, your MCAT, and your letters of rec are far more important. But will the money and other benefits help you perform better so that you will be a better applicant? Will you be happier at UCLA, and will you not have to get a job to pay for college because of the award, and that sort of thing?

If you would be happier at Berkeley, and can give up the benefits of the scholarship, then you should come here, but if you prefer LA, and the benefits of the schalarship are significant to you, then UCLA is probably the plac efor you.

but do LA premed students get into prestigious med schools like HMS, Yale, UCSF..Hopkins?

dude, people from Podunk U. get into Harvard med, UCSF, etc. Get over the med school app right now; you're not even a freshman yet - pick the school you will feel most comfortable at.

thanks guys for the input...especially Drab...just so you know..money is not a matter...neither are the benefits. I solely wanted to know how significant will it look on the app...i guess GPA, MCAT and recs are more important. i love both cal and la...so it'll be tough to decide.

A lot of people are in a situation similar to yours. I sent in my letter of intent to register to Cal at about 11:40 something the last possible day.
