Well as a Deerfield student I’m going to have to defend my school. You call Deerfield ‘old money’ and yet we give FA to a larger portion of our Student Body than Choate does. What you call stuffy traditions we call school spirit - unlike you, apparently, we try to exhibit some respect for our school’s past in that manner. And you would be kidding yourself if you thought that any of the unpleasant experiences you just named only happens to Choate visitors, and not to DA visitors when we go to Choate. You say our students are so rude and impolite and yet that one consistency in this forum is how everyone praises the warm community atmosphere of the DA campus and kids when tours or visits are being discussed.

But I don’t want to hijack this thread and let it degenerate into rivalry. They are both great schools, I just couldn’t allow for that big a misrepresentation. To address the original purpose of this thread, Deerfield is a bit more traditional than its counterparts - Choate, Andover, etc…This manifests itself in our jacket-and-tie dress code, the frequency in our sit-down meals. However, that isn’t to say that it’s not fun. We have great school spirit and an energetic student body that is by boarding school standards a very happy one - something you may notice on your second-visit-day.

Obviously I am biased and the best way is to see for yourself - so I suggest doing a revisit to both schools to build your opinion/choice. And finally, classes at Deerfield start at 8:30, not 9:00

^ darn it… i knew it was too good to be true !!

One thing i want to correct from skibum4’s comment:
The Science Research Project (SRP) is actually four terms: all three terms of one’s junior year, a required internship (where you have to go out and get it yourself) over the summer, and the fall term of one’s senior (where one is to present their project in front of faculty and peers) It’s a great learning experience I’m applying for it myself and I already have a summer internship planned out for this summer (which you don’t have to do ._.)

also want to add stuff about the programs
Theres also Art’s Concentration and Capstone. It’s kind of like specific programs for each department (SRP - sciences; arts concentration- arts ._. (visual, theater, music); capstone- history) Arts Concentration is if you are really dedicated to the arts (you can specialize in one of the three) and depending on which you decide to focus on you take different courses, such as music theory for music focused, art history for art focused, etc. You can apply for it in your freshman year or any year actually and continue with it.
Capstone is the one I don’t know as much about. This program is during our senior year so you apply junior winter, same as SRP. Capstone is similar to Directed Study except more on the humanities aspect. You make your own curriculum i’m pretty sure, but if you’re interested in that program, you can look into it more. I’m not the humanities type so i don’t know much about it xD

This is just a little info about Choate and I don’t know if you were looking for anything like this, but I hope it helps, even a little, with your decision making :)
