I loved number 4 the best.
Note: I’m looking at this with the point-of-view of a first time visitor
I cannot deal with 3/4/5. 3 doesn’t have color blocking like 1 does and the use of real humans seems so bland, so my eyes just glaze over when I attempt to look at the box headlines. 4 is a style that will become outdated very quickly, for scratchy text is kind of a trend in font styles(look at album covers and other teen websites), and it’s not appealing to everyone’s eyes. 5 is just hideous - it reminds me of those Postopia games where you “build hip and cool pixelated rooms for all of your online friends!” - totally pre-Web 2.0 style.
I think the best way to is combine the clean and sleek style of 1 with some style of 2. The various shades of blue and the one-font system is pleasing, but it seems too corporate with how you “quote” a student. I actually trust websites less when they just have a random good looking student with a “quote” on the main page - it seems like they’re trying to squelch whatever personality that the forums and website might have. I do love the login feature position in 1 in comparison to 2 though.
You could replace that section with maybe a profile on an unknown university with links to similar/opposite universities in the articles (that’s a major problem), or the current forum topics list like in option 2. I also love the top toolbar in 2 and how the whiteness of the webspace is very open, so again, combination of 1 and 2 would be your best bet.
1-best
2-2nd best
3-3rd best
4-4th best
5-worst
I wonder why the listing was arranged in that way.
Number 5 was definitely the best
It is the only one that doesn’t look like one of those fake spam sites. It’s approachable (if a web page can be approachable) and the emphasis on the forum captures the community and the wealth of information they apply. Since the forum is the most attractive aspect of CC, it should be the focus and option 5, with its emphasis on the digital characters, best accentuates that.
Number 1 was the worst, it came off as either really boring, like a fake spam site (as did 2 and 3), or nerdy (2 and 3 again). And while I know CC is a pretty nerdy place, most nerds don’t want to admit that they’re nerds by going to a site that looks nerdy.
Since the reconstruction is most likely to attract new posters/lurkers, number 5 is the best choice, with number 4 at a close second.
I like 1 the most.
But 5 is awful. The pixelated people theme looks tacky.
2, 3, 4 are okay, but bland.
Number 1: Classic, friendly, and well laid out
Number 2&3: I don’t like the cartoon look of 2, but the layout presents a nice refresh
Number 4: Too much going on for my eyes
Number 5: Just seems somewhat strange
Honestly I think all the options are worse than the current design. This site right now is easy to navigate and that is definitely something to look into when designing a site.
The visitors of this site are mainly high school-college students. None who are willing to search every nook and cranny to find out what their chances are. I’d suggest an design just like the current version but with colors like the 1st option.
Please don’t choose any of the new designs.
Best: As-is. Simple navigation = god.
2nd best: Number 1.
Everything else: Disgusting.
I don’t like cluttered websites. If I were a parent I’d be turned off by how incredibly juvenile, busy, and cluttered Number 2, Number 3, Number 4, and Number 5 are. As a student, I associate clutter with a lack of legitimacy unless said clutter seems extensibly developed (animations, etc., and this is NOT what CC needs).
IMHO, I found the designs becoming more cluttered/less clean and less sophisticated/professional as I went down the options. I liked #1 the best - clean lines, easy to navigate, and sophisticated graphics (the screened images in the background).
Thanks for all the survey feedback (and comments here)! We’ll leave the survey open a bit longer, if you want to be heard better jump in soon!
Liked first option the best. Don’t like cartoony look on some of the other options.
I agree with someone who said 2 and 3rd one looked like a fake spam site trying to advertise something. I sorta like the look of number 4, but I wish there were more color blocking and not as scratchy text.
I guess number one parents will like and students will live with it.
and who said leave it as it is… i mean it might be simple to navigate (i never really visit the main site anymore lol) but its… definitely not pleasing to the eye.
Liked Option # 1, BUT PLEASE don’t change the forums layout!
I think they look like the SAT site
I wish you could add a friendly search engine for this forum .
What’s wrong with the current, site/layout again?
