I applied Dickinson College as EA and Macaulay Hunter as RD.

Now I'm thinking of change from EA Dickinson to ED II Dickinson because I will likely receive more aids.

However, I actually wanna live in NYC- that's why I applied Macaulay Hunter

But the thing is--I have more chance of getting into Dickinson College than Macaulay Hunter (since there rate of acceptace are much higher)..

Do you think I should move from EA to ED Dickinson? Could you please give me the pros and cons of both college and tell if you were me, which one you would choose?

I wanna major Psychology which is one of top major in Hunter but not Dickinson… that’s why I really wonder if I should do ED because psychology is not popular major in Dickinson

I would keep your Dickinson application as EA and also apply to Macaulay. I can’t tell you the pros and cons of these schools, but if your preference is to live in NYC, then I think you should keep your options open.

I would like to keep Dickinson as EA and wait for Macaulay (which I already applied). I know that Macaulay will pay for my tuition but there’s high chance that I will not get in (CR 510 M 800). And If do EA Dickinson, there’s a chance (dunno how big it is) that I will not get in as well. If that so, I have to look at third choice school which is really sad. But If I do ED, I will probably get in… AUHH!!!

I like big CITY like NYC-it’s my dream city to live in. But I dun care about small town since I was born and live in suburb city. As long as that small town and things to do and not boring, I’m ok with it

I think you should look for a third option. Applying to only two schools is a risk for anyone. Dickinson is in a charming town, but it is very small, and your life really would be centered on campus life. Are there other schools in or near cities that have late deadlines and would be a good match for you?

I already applied to 5 not only 2… just that my third college would have to pay more (and my mom is not willing to)-but if i lost my first and sec choice-she would be ok to pay for my third choice even if it’s more expensive. But I also don’t want to pay more when I have a chance to pay less in Dickinson.

I’m actually ok with life centered on campus life. Right now I live really near my HS so my life is also center on campus. But I just want to go around sometimes for shopping (don’t mean by brandname stuff–just normal clothes-normal things) or watching movies on weekend. I actually don’t know if Carlisle has those such things near by. If there is, I will be totally ok.

What do you know about CUNY-Hunter College? It and Dickinson aren’t comparable at all. It’s a huge, commuter school in the city with very little campus life. The students surveyed by Princeton Review give it a C- for academics, a D for campus life, and rank it the sixth most unattractive campus in the country. The name “College” may sound intimate, but it has over 20,000 commuter students.

Dickinson is one of the elite liberal arts colleges in America. It’s on a beautiful, leafy campus in a city of about 20,000. It’s certainly not urban, but you can walk downtown for shopping and movies. In addition, the campus life there would be vibrant, engaging and intimate. You would make lifelong friends there; I’m not sure you’re likely to make many at Hunter with all the commuters.

My sense is that going to Hunter would be primarily a way to live in NYC for a few years. But if you can get into Dickinson, I’d think you’d give up a lot of quality of campus and academic life to do it. I’d bet that there are many opportunities at Dickinson for internships, trips, and off-campus study in NYC. It’s only three hours by car.

Just to defend your case, I applied as honors college which is respectable and obviously, unlike regular couse, not C- academic. But campus life is undeniable-i knew it.

Woah, woah, woah don’t go bashing Macaulay quite yet. I’m a freshman MHC student at Hunter so I might be able to offer some insight. Sure you don’t have rolling green quads or ncaa championship winning teams like some colleges but you have all of NYC. I’ll gladly take the NY Rangers and central park two avenues away as a substitute. The city becomes your campus, trust me i’d know. Dickinson isn’t nearly as elite as the above poster paints it. You’re right there isn’t much of a community at Hunter (except for certain clubs like roosevelt) but the dorms are extremely close. In the dorms there’s only 600 kids nearly all of which are honors students. You’re not gonna be hard up for friends so long as you make an open and honest effort. My 2 cents.

Yeah I took almost all honors classes at Macaulay and yes they were quite challenging. The professors in them were also fantastic. In terms of regular classes there are some good teachers and some bad just like all colleges. Hunter pays their profs very well, you’d be surprised at the number of Harvard, Yale, etc. PHD’s. It’s all about finding good teachers which is not hard.
