HELP! Do I have to report the writing section of my ACT?

Hey,

I’ve taken three ACTs, one of which was with writing. I don’t want to report my writing score, but it’s a specific question on commonapp. Do I have to report it? I have a 33C and 34 superscored, including a 35R and 36E so I don’t want having a 9 on the writing to hurt me.

Please advise!!!

Honestly, I don’t think having a 9 in the writing section will hurt you. Its only 3 points lower than a perfect score. Do the schools you are applying to require the writing? Few schools look at the writing section bc the grading is so arbitrary. Just write a good essay.

I don’t know of any colleges that really use the writing score. Don’t worry about it.

A 9 is actually pretty good. My son got a 6 on his test that had a 31 composite. He was worried about that, but he still got into the selective school he applied to.

We had that exact same question! did not want to report the test date which had the writing score; which we did not want to report as well.

yet the common app asks the question “have you EVER taken the writing test?”

It’s really poorly worded and written; it should say “would you like to report your writing score?”

SO - we contacted customer service at common app, not once but twice. Here is exactly what they said: ** and we are not reporting that writing score, although it was taken once.

Hello,

It is at your discretion to report any test scores in your account. These are unofficial so you can report it as you see fit. All official test scores are submitted through the testing agency or College Board. You can report the best scores from multiple tests if you wish and you can not report the writing if you so wish. It is your choice.

Best,
Ryan
