HELP!!!!Do I stand a chance for University of Florida??

Im an out of state student.(Live in PA)
Im a white female with a family income of around 45,000$
My mother is attending community college to become a nurse, my father works out of the country and my brother is still in grade school so I will be the only child in our househole going through college.
I currently have a 22 on my ACT however am retaking them in the fall(I have all summer to improve) and will probably get a 27 at least. If I apply as soon as possible and send my ACTs when they become available would that be acceptable?
unweighted gpa of 3.7 and a weighted gpa of 3.8(Not counting senior grades. All 5 classes I will be taking are very challenging and AP)
I have taken the hardest courses possible at my high school, even though APs and advanved courses arent really offered until Junior year. (We have no honors. Only advanced and a few APs).
My gpa is good for my school considering last year's valedictorian only had a 4.2. We dont have honors, we have advanced. APs are only offered Junior and Senior year. I went without a lunch 10th grade year and took 2 maths, my Junior year I took 3 maths (2 may have been AP, computer science, Statistics, Trig.) Ive also taken 2 sciences each year since 10th grade.
We dont really have APs.. We have bio and then advanced bio(Ive taken both along with physics, earth and space science, and chem. No honors or APs offered for any math or science.
I only have a class of 65 and am about 16th right now, however when i graduate I should be 6 or 7.
I will have a kick *** essay, I am an excellent writer.
By the time I apply I will have roughly 700 hours of community service which includes many diverse areas.
I have 430 of them at a Hospital,
100 at a Therapeutic riding facility,
20 baby sitting underprivileged kids,
20 at a food bank,
15 pumpkin picking (leo club activities)
In August I will begin volunteering at the Humane society, before applying I should gain at least 40 more hours of community service.
Im in NHS and received two awards for my community service.
I know know if it helps but I have done 2 job shawdowings...
I was on my hospital's Jr. volunteer board as a Secretary and trainer for 3 years.
I have been in the following clubs(counting senior year):
Envirorthon(Biology quiz club)- 3 years
Art club- 2 years (was secretary for a year)
SADD- 3 years
Leo Club- 3 years
Alumni gardens(Biology related club)- 3 years
Foreign Language- 2 years
Students in action- 3 years
Yearbook- 1 year
NHS- 2 years
Mathletes- 3 years
Stage crew- 3 years (I should be stage manager my senior year.)
I also started working when I was 15 as a sophomore in high school and have held a steady job working at least 3 nights a week ever since.
I don't know if it would mean anything but I will be visiting UF this July or August!

So do I have a chance? Any advice is welcomed! I know I'm a long shot but if I'd love to know if I have a chance!!

heeelp me please please </3

Please please help!!

Chances of getting in if you do get ACT 27 are decent not great. 25/ 75th percentile is 26/31.

Do you realize it is very expensive for oos ($42k)?

I do but it’s my dream school!!! My boyfriend is currently attending Stetson University and my family has always loved Florida(we had a condo for 13 years there) and will probably be moving when my mother finishes nursing school! Thank you very much for your responde:))

I would say you should work on your ACT.

Your GPA is decent and I feel that your ECs show that you are well-rounded, although it would be a plus to find something that you really like and show more focus. Holding a job for a long period time while maintaining your GPA is a good sign that you have good time management too.

Sorry that I could not chance you because I’m an international applicant and know nothing about UoF, but I hope my advices helped.

No it did! Thank you! :)

bumpbumpbump

bumpetybump

You need to get your act up. I would say if you got a 28 you would have solid. Your course load definitely looks hardship enough do with a solid act score u would have a good chance

Thanks!:)) Im studying all summer and I have someone to tutor me in math so a 28 or 29 is possible!!

Yup just work on the ACT I’d say and you’d definitely atleast have a fair chance. Especially if you grind it out and try to improve everything a little bit.

being an excellent writer doesn’t mean that you will write an essay that will appeal to colleges… Most of them will end up writing generic essays because of two main reasons. One, they are overconfident. Two, they barely spend any time to go over their essay(sad, but it’s true).

If your ACT score goes up to your goal of 27/28, you will def. have a solid chance for UF.

Thanks! I do spend a great deal of time on my essays. Ive had numerous teachers from my AP classes come up to me and tell me to be a writer. Im not trying to be overconfident, I just feel I can write a mean essay!:)

Just a fyi, university of fl only accepts about 3% of the applicant pool from out of state and the middle 50% of gpa is a 4.0 to a 4.4. Good luck, though.

Eh. That doesn’t mean very much. Most people don’t like paying 42,000$ a year so naturally the 3% makes a lot of sense and I was well aware! Oh and my GPA should be a 4.1 by the time I graduate so thanks very much :)

Just be aware that there may be harder admission requirements for out of state students. A spokesman for uf has said that uf is mainly for educating Florida students. If your scores improve you will have a better chance though. Apply early and have a back up.

GPA is a little low and if you can get a 27 on the ACT it might work but it seems like a reach :frowning: sorry

Actually not, the reason for the low percentage is because of the low number of applicants…

Keep in mind that state schools are by law, required to admit a certain percentage of in state students. At UNC, for example, it is around 82%. Your stats have to be better than the average in state student because there are way less spots out of state.
