All the UC decision is out…
I missed my TAG for UCSB because my gpa is 3.19(need 3.2).
major : computer science.
Igetc : done
pre-req : done
Waitlisted : UCSD, UCD
Rejected : UCSB, UCI, UCR
This is my second year applying, and I been in CC for three years now.
I have over 70 units, so doesnt seem reasonable if I stay one more year in CC.
After this spring my gpa will be over 3.3, I could wait a year and TAG again. But what should I do in this gap year?
I dont know what to do with this situation. Still need to break the news to my parent… They are gonna be pissed… lol
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks
did you get into any CSU campuses? Its always a good idea to have a plan B, especially when with around a 3.2 you knew you were going to be a borderline candidate at UCs.
I’m sorry @pika1110. Yes, you did apply without a safety net in place. I’m sure you can get into a CSU. Do they take spring admits?
I did 4 years at CC and have 123 units. You can apply to CSU for spring admission or try the UCs next year. Check the degree plans for the school you want to transfer to. UCSD had classes on there I needed to take that weren’t on assist. You could take those if you stay.
You can do more units but I don’t know. Your GPA is borderline, although you did get waitlisted.
BTW, the last few years every competitive student who didn’t get into their chosen UCs were offered admission at Merced. Since you are waitlisted twice that means you’re competitive.
Yeah, it’s merced but if they do it this year you should be offered it. I would take it. It’s a UC and will definitely rise up. I see it as the baby Davis that was considered a big nothing back in the early days. It’s got two research institutes already.
It looks like a few CSU campuses still are accepting apps for Fall 2015 for CS majors. Unless you get off a waiting list at a UC that is your best choice (assuming they accept you). See https://secure.csumentor.edu/filing_status/Default.asp
This is your best option, IMHO. UCs carry more prestige, but that really is of less importance for a CS major. With engineering and CS majors employers 1) care about what you can do 2) can readily assess it. In an interview it is going to be obvious whether you can do the work or not, so if you are willing to work hard in college and really master the material you will have opportunities out of college. It is also important to take part in CS related activities (both your own personal projects and school clubs) so that you are an attractive candidate for internships. Internships, in turn, are key to attracting the interest of future employers and, given the current job climate, will give you an automatic offer from the internship company if you do well there.
Maybe you always wanted a UC degree, but its going to cost you $60K to $100K in lost income to burn another year at a CC hoping you get in. Maybe its worth it to you, most people would think not.
Boy, the TAG documentation is pretty clear… You had been through the process before and you knew they were unlikely to accept you with a GPA under the published threshold.
Anyhow… the Bakersfield and the other CSUs with later deadlines are certainly worth a look.
UNR typically accepts late applicants as well.
Good luck.
Go in as a spring admit for a cal state. I wouldn’t wait another year for the UC application period.
