HELP! Dorm Prefrences and all of the confusing options...

Hi, I'm an incoming Fall 2011 admit. The entire process of dorm preferences are completely frying my brain. There are so many options, and to a certain extent I wonder how much preferences are actually taken in to account, especially because I applied so late (in early April... VERY late in the grand scheme of things).

I'm a slightly unique case as I am entering as a junior Political Science/International Studies major (I am receiving my AA in high school). Because of this I don't necessarily want to be in a freshman-centric dorm environment (not because I have anything against them, but more for the possibility of mingling with people I will more likely share classes with). And I also prefer to be in a dorm with co-ed floors. Even though it's an odd preference, I just don't typically get along with girls (even though I am one).

Does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom to shine a bit of light on this process and its idiosyncratic tenancies? Any assistance would be appreciated beyond expression.

I’m considering Yulee/Mallory area - mostly because a friend said she liked it. But I really don’t know that much about it other than it’s on the east side of campus, and it’s not Broward (aka, Animal House).

I lived in Hume during the summer and it was an amazing experience. That being said here are my recommendations since I’ve visited most dorms.

1) Hume - of course
2) Murphree - but since you most likely wont get it you may just waste a preference
3) Buckman - very spacious and the no air conditioning is no big deal, buy a fan
4) Yulee - or any other renovated dorm, nice bathrooms, average dorm, decent overall
5) Beaty & Tolbert Area - i find them to be ok, but moving in and out will be a **!
6) Broward - yes you stayed there during orientation and it sucked BUT you will meet the most people here, it’s location is awesome especially for meal planners. Its a dorm and you’ll forget how *ty it is after a couple weeks

Graham area is decent if you have no other choice because of the Graham Oasis, it’s a grill/store that has the most delicious fries, chicken finger sub, burgers, philly cheese steak, etc. and they are open until 3am. So its a huge plus but living there was not so great.

Hey, for me to find my preferences (which was totally brain frying) I looked at the map online, figured out where most of my classes would probably be centered and found the nicest halls nearby! I did some research on each preference but not much seeing as I figure they will put me wherever they want. You can pick now and change them later as much as you see fit!

By the way, do you need a roommate?
