Okay so I'm going to be living in a quint this fall. There will be 5 of us in total. There are two bedrooms, one is a DOUBLE and one is a TRIPLE. And there is a shared living room between us 5.

Is it better to stay in the double or the triple? How do you decide who gets the double and who gets the triple? Do you decide there and then or do you do it online (we've already met on FB). There is no first-come, first-serve at my school since we all have to unpack at the same time to be fair.

Any advice on this guys? I was hoping for a DOUBLE or a QUAD at best.

Usually, you wait until everyone gets there to choose who gets the best of what. [At least, that’s how it works when it’s two people with bunk beds or three people in a single/double.] Since you all know each other on Facebook, it should be fair to send a group message and ask if anyone has a preference. If everyone wants the double, then try rotating at semester break [though one person will always be in the triple]. Are there any other really desirable parts of the house/dorm that you guys can split up? Maybe one really big closet or something? It may be fair to give the last person some really nice part and then have the other 4 switch between triple and double.

It might not be a bad idea to divide up the rooms maybe by bedtime. Do both rooms have individual locks or is it basically just two rooms with a connected living room?

You would generally decide beforehand (if you can) or it may be first-come-first-served basis.

Also I would call this type of room a five-person suite, not a quint. A quint makes me think of a single room for all five people, not a double and a triple with a common room. Kind of misleading, since a suite is actually quite nice to live in.

Maybe the two people who get the double should be in charge of buying something for the common area of the dorm, like decorations or something. Or maybe you should all agree to wait until you all spend time together to see who connects with who. Maybe three of you guys will have a lot in common and actually be excited to be in a triple together.
