HELP! Dual degree in A&D: new doubts

Here's my quandary, please offer suggestions if you can:

I've always had a hint of interest in industrial design (you know, designing how products look/feel/function). So when I applied to UM, I applied as an engineering major and also applied to the school of art & design. Just to be clear, my main major will be engineering, and that is still my main interest.

For a while, I was very excited that I could study both eng and A&D at the same time. But then a few problems arose:

I might not be able to graduate within 4 years if I do both, and this is hard on the pocketbook. UM is OOS for me: despite what the FAFSA calculates (and the virtually no aid UM decided to give me), paying $50K+ per year is already tough for four straight years. It would be horrid if we made that 5.

UM just notified me that I would have to spend $4000 on a custom MacBook setup that they require all A&D students to have. That's basically a one-time 10% increase on tuition, and I really don't want to pay that.

A&D was always my interest, but only my small side interest.

So, is it even worth it for me to continue as a dual degree student? Any advice? I'm just kind of lost in confusion and paperwork.

Thanks for any help :|

no, that’s too much in terms of $$ and time (which is also $$).
Just do engineering, and maybe try to take a few classes in the A&D school if you have room?
