My ECs are deteriorating…with very few amount of hrs involved

Compared to other ivy applicants, my ECs are too weak i think…
This summer is coming…any good advice on ECs??? I need to prepare SAT too in order to get good score to compensate ECs…Any good advice???

First of all, join the clubs that interest you! Second of all, don't go OVERBOARD! OO; :] I hope that helps.

Don't join any more clubs. It does not help you to have a laundry list of EC's. You are better off having a few EC that you have been into for a long period of time and have developed some leadership skills in. It seems that you like photography, I would suggest develoing that skill more doing things like entering more competitions, do showings, hook up with a non-profit agency that can use your hot skills etc.

what grade are you in? in any case, you'll need to highlight only 4 or 5 EC's max and dedicate your time to it. colleges are looking for QUALITY not quantity. your EC's also don't have to be super hardcore or anything (academic decathlon, varsity sport, class officer, etc), but they will suffice as long as it makes you stand out as an UNIQUE applicant with a PERSONALITY and CHARACTER. so, do the EC's that you love to do. if you're really passionate about photography for example, that will make you different than many other kids. i also suggest you get an officer position in 1 or 2 of your primary EC's.

if you're still an underclassman, it's totally okay. you were probably just exploring different EC's to join. now it's time to prioritize and cut out some of the EC's and use that extra time on developing quality experiences if not accomplishments on the EC's. even if you don't have awards or officer positions to show for your EC's, your experiences from it may help contribute to a good college essay topic.

I have been the regional executive assistant of the Astronomical Society since I immigrant to Canada...that's for 3 yrs..and photography which is my real passion....well....My ques is should i do more community services to accumulate more hrs......I am gr11 rite now class of 2010.....going to take sat 1 this oct, probably nov for the second time. My schedule is pretty tough
TOEFL: 263 Essay 6.0 which is ok for most schools.

ECs are overrated. You're fine, cfso.

If photography is your passion, play that up with your ECs. Could you submit some photos to your local newspaper? Talk to the photo editor, and see if she/he will look at your stuff. You may be able to work your way into a freelance job.
