my parents split this past january but filed their taxes married. i submitted my fafsa with 2012 information of their income and just found out that i should have filed with them as seperated. i went back and changed that today because they will be getting legally separated soon (hopefully) and just wanted to know if that was an okay thing to do since it was after the march 2nd deadline? please help, im worried that all my aid will be taken away together since its such a drastic change so late and none of us have ever used the fafsa before. my EFC dropped about $13,000 to $3000 due to income being cut in half. I just really don't want to screw something up and lose all hope of school

Call your school’s FAO

Check your college financial aid page for the policy on “Special Conditions”. There should be a form that you can file to explain what is happening/has happened in your situation.

Good luck with everything. This must be a very trying time for everyone in your family.
