HELP! Email from SF state.

Thank you for applying to San Francisco State University.

As you may know, due to limited resources, S.F. State is not able to admit all eligible applicants. We must give priority to applicants from our local area. San Francisco State's local admissions area includes the six Bay Area counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and Santa Clara.

Upper-division transfer applicants transferring from schools outside of this area are currently being admitted at a 3.3 GPA or higher.

According to the information on your application, you do not have a 3.3 GPA. If you believe that the GPA on your application was inaccurate and you do currently have a 3.3 or higher GPA, please submit all college transcripts showing grades through the Fall 2012 semester.

I only have a 3.0 GPA, so does this mean that I am automatically denied because I do not live in those local areas... !?
Any response will be appreciated.

It appears so.

:/ fine. csu’s are so lame to be like this… I haven’t been admitted to any csu’s that I’ve applied to. I guess I will most likely get into the UCs because they do not only look at my GPA :[.

That’s strange what is your major? I’ve seen people with a 2.8+ get accepted into sf state. What other csu did you apply for?

Did you check the GPA threshold for your major? Majors like English, Thart., nursing, etc. all have high GPA thresholds because of the impaction, etc. UC’s also have a GPA threshold as well but certain UC’s are more lenient (again depending on major). For instance, UCLA for CS has a pretty high soft threshold this year at around 3.5, if you didn’t meet this GPA your essay had to be pretty good to get in. (What I mean by soft threshold is that there are people under 3.5 that still get in)

I applied for communication studies major… according to assist.org, it doesn’t say it’s an impacted major…

Oh and I also applied to Cal Poly Pomona and San Diego state. They’re all my back up colleges but doesn’t seem like I’ll get in since sfsu says i’m not elegible. It is kind of disappointing

Are you local to sf too? I would say Pomona and San Diego are a reach and that sf would have been your back up.

Your location says San Francisco, so you should be local for San Francisco State. Have you moved elsewhere, or does SFSU have the wrong residency information for you?

Oh no! i meant to type SF bay area… used to live in SF and I’ve moved a long time ago. Now I’m in Sonoma County, which is in the Northbay of SF. I’m not local and not in those six counties. Still, so the email means that I’m denied right… it’s so stupid… that I need a 3.3 or higher to be eligible for SF state! wasted my time and money for them. WOw. Thank’s everyone for the response though!

You would think that they would tell you that you need a 3.3 GPA to be considered BEFORE you applied. If it doesn’t say this on their website, they are ■■■■■■■■.

^well I wouldn’t exactly say that. They determine this threshold by the number of applicant that applies to the college/major. Some schools like SJSU have their threshold listed, but not all. As for the op, sorry for the denial I wish you best of luck on your other application.

I got the same email. I applied for Film Production, and I have a 3.27… f*** me right?

Ah that’s even worse, since you’re SO CLOSE to 3.3…:/

WHOA. Just got accepted to SDSU. O_O. I applied for Journalism- Media Studies. And it says it’s an impacted major. I’m excited now!!

Wow very nice and strange that sf denied you but sdsu accepted you. Congrats man.

Congratulations! SDSU is a better school, anyway.

I"m a girl btw haha, THANK YOU! I know, and it says that Journalism-media studies at SDSU is an impacted major! it’s so strange! I guess it’s because I got As for their prerequisites… and that SFSU really has very limited resources.

What’s your GPA!? Must be higher than mine… hehe…

your GPA’s still high enough to get in, ha! I had 2.9 when I applied… now i have 3.1 after I got my grade changed, but it’s not high enough for Sfsu as they said I’m not from local areas and must have 3.3 or higher = =
