So I just found out my mom entered my brothers social security number when she filed the css profile instead of mine.
I am so freaking angry right now. How you mess something so important up is beyond me considering my brother doesn't even need a css profile.
Anyways now Im left to deal with this.
I discovered it while going to print out the IDOC cover sheet and of course its the wrong ssn in the right hand corner which means the wrong number was sent to all my schools with the profile.
What do I do? Obviously this issue needs to be dealt with immediately.
Ugh I am so angry I hope this doesn't ruin my chances at financial aid.

I need it fixed within the next 24 hours so I can send the correct IDOC items into collegeboard before the march 1st deadline.

You make a new account fill out the profile again, with the correct SSN, and your mother pay the fees again. You countact the schools to let them know what happened, and why you missed the deadline, if you did.

Or your other option is to contact the College Board, and see what remedy they have for you. It will probably also involve paying the fees again, and contacting schools to let them know why you’re late.

No sense in being angry, people make mistakes, and I doubt that you are perfect. This is early enough that an explanation to the colleges and sending sending correct information should fix the problem. This is about maturity, and showing how you handle things when they go wrong. Anger is for when someone intentionally does something to hurt you. I can understand frustration, but if this is something that truly make you ANGRY, I’m not sure I would want you on my campus.

If you notice, the IDOC packet gives you instructions in case you can’t send everything by March 1st - it’s not a cutoff deadline, after which colleges won’t consider you for aid. Some people can’t file their tax returns by then (and I don’t mean they can’t e-file, I mean they can’t complete them, because they don’t have all the information). They will be willing to work with you as long as you communicate with them - and do so in a mature fashion.

One final note - why did your mother fill out the base information for the CSS Profile - she is responsible for the financial information, not the rest. It’s under your Collegeboard account, so you should have been involved in the process, including checking to make sure everything was right before it was sent.

Leigh - I have multiple kids and, for me, a good day is getting everyone’s NAMES right! As CTScoutmom said, get it fixed and move on.

And this is the kind of error that people make all the time in filling out both FAFSA and Profile, so it’s nothing the colleges haven’t seen before, and certainly nothing they’ll hold against you.

Thanks. You guys were right and I contacted college board and each individual school I applied to so I’m dealing with it. Thanks again
