<p>With tomorrow being May 1st, I have a tough decision to make:</p>
<p>I have to choose between either Case Western or Emory. I live near Cleveland and would love to get away. If money was not an option, I would go to Emory. However, I have not yet visited campus so I only know what I have heard and read.</p>
<p>The issue is that I received a ton of scholarships and can go to Case for free and graduate with $0 in debt. On the other hand, I would have to pay $17,000 a year to go to Emory. While I think I would rather go to Emory, that is a big difference in money.</p>
<p>I'm also worried about majors. I don't know for sure what I want to do yet, but it is very possible that I will decide to go to med school. I do not want to do engineering, but I might do business/economics or maybe even law.</p>
<p>Anyone have any tips? Would it be worth it to go to Emory, a top ranked university, even if it meant debt?</p>
<p>At this late date, I’m inclined to advise you to commit to Case Western. It’s an excellent school (and also one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) schools, of which Emory is also a member institution).</p>
<p>I can understand your interest in wanting to venture a little further from home, but you should only do so if you have visited the campus and had a chance to determine whether it is to your liking. Since you have not visited the Emory campus, you would risk the potential for not liking it, in addition to the additional cost in attendance.</p>
<p>My suggestion is this … commit to Case Western and give it a real chance. It’s a tremendous bargain to go there on a full-ride. Do well in your classes and at some juncture, if you are still curious, visit Emory to make a comparison. As you may know, Emory has a great undergrad business program at Goizueta, in addition to graduate schools in both business and law. With the money you’re saving at Case, you can use some of it to take a trip to Atlanta and see whether Emory has appeal. If it does, and compares favorably to Case, then consider a transfer, perhaps for your junior year.</p>
<p>I’m also from the Cleveland area and I am a freshman this year at Emory. If all things were equally financially, I would recommend Emory. Emory has a great business school (that why I chose Emory) and many students are Pre-Med. Also, going farther away from Ohio has been good for me personally, and the other students here that are far away from home say the same thing. If you are ok with paying 17,000 a year, then I would say come to Emory.</p>
<p>I would choose Case. I was accepted to Emory and Case this year but case would have been $20,000/year more expensive so Emory was the better option for me. Emory is a great school but $80,000 is a lot of debt when you could go to another great school for free.</p>
