help! Engineering at USC, UCSD, Cal Poly, WUSTL or UOP??

I am going crazy choosing a school, this is so complicated. I need to decide by May 1. I have been accepted for Engineering at USC, UCSD, Cal Poly SLO, and Pacific. I think I prefer Civil/Structural, but I applied to General Engineering at the schools that offer that major like USC, because I heard switching majors can be really hard, even within the Engineering Dept, and I am not TOTALLY decided.

USC feels like a good fit, because I love their campus and school spirit and their new Engineering school. Not sure if I will want a Masters, but their 5yr program would be great if I decide to. Money is not an issue, but the USC price tag is scary nonetheless.

UCSD has an even better campus, and a great program, but what about the UC budget problems, (is it worth paying out of State tuition for a UC school?),and how hard would it be to switch from Structural E to something else, assuming it is not an impacted major, which is impossible to switch into?

Have not visited Cal Poly SLO yet, but I know it is a good engineering school, and they offered me a small scholarship. I heard it is hard to switch majors there. I think I prefer the big city though, SLO seems remote, so sight unseen, it is not my top choice.

Pacific offered me big money to go there, and their Honors Program, but Stockton sounds boring compared to cities in So Cal, so I don't know if I would like it. People say it IS in a boring area, but a good school. My parents are pushing me, and say to just go look at it, but I only applied there in case I didn;t get into the more selective schools. Their 5 year program with work experience sounds like a good way to make contacts for future job opportunites though.

I am wait-listed for Gen Eng at Wash U St L. I prefer CA, but I know it is a great school, so I am keeping my options open there even if it may mean losing my deposits elsewhere.

Sorry to give you my life story, but there is so much to consider and that is why I am so confused. What about future employment, which school is better for that? You hear a lot about the Trojan family, but are Cal Poly grads the most marketable? I read that somewhere.

I really like USC, but I have other options, and I want to make an informed decision. Thanks, any input would help.

i would goto USC.

Hello, Earlier this year i spoke to a guidance counsor for EE at Ucsd, he specifically said that transfering within the engineering school is not very difficult unless you want to go into a impacted major, like ECE or bioE. I don't believe that structural is impacted. As for SLO switching between the engineering majors is rather easy you need a 2.0 GPA but you cannot switch until completing one quarter.

thanks for the info. No, Structural is not impacted, so that is good. Do you know anything about Revelle College at UCSD? I am not sure if that was a good choice, it is not anywhere near the Engineering school.

Hate to say it but revelle will be hard with a engineering major. they require many GE's. I believe most Engineering Majors choose Warren or muir.
Your choice of college does not affect your major thought so if you can work hard it should be ok.
