I need some help from experts.
I mistakenly thought Columbia University accepted extra recommendations so I submitted a recommendation written by my principal. He rarely writes recommendation for students, so I know that it's good. That said, in the website I figured, they discourage extra recs. I called up the school to see if they can withdraw the extra rec since they submitted online and colleges haven't downloaded, but the school said it's not possible.
Any suggestions in what I can do?

They discourage extra recs, but I don’t think it’s necessary to withdraw your extra recommendation. I doubt it will result in an automatic rejection.

Yeah, at most it would kind of “irk” the admission officers, but seriously though, its nothing to be losing sleep over. Breathe and relax, you’ve done your best, now just wait haha. GL

i had a teacher send an extra music rec - didn’t bring me any troubles. i’d say an extra rec would be good if it serves an actual purpose, rather than just being another letter saying how swell you are (i would say mine served a purpose because it addressed my musical qualifications/abilities etc.).

Yeah, my private lesson teacher for flute wrote me a supplemental recommendation letter & even though supplemental rec’s are discouraged, I’m thinking of sending it b/c it addresses points none of my other recommendations did.
