I'm a junior in high school now, but when I was a freshman in 2009, I took a CC (At Pasadena City College) for spanish for just a few weeks before I dropped out. I called the admissions office and they dropped the class for me, or so I thought. Now (2 years later), I go back to my CC, believing I have no previous record, and I took classes and got an A in philosophy. However, when I looked at my transcript, there was AN F FROM SPANISH 2 YEARS AGO! but I dropped the course! WHAT DO I DO? I am an honor student, I have a 4.2/3.98 GPA, and I simply CANNOT have an F on my college transcript!!!! Can I sue?? Do you think if I ask kindly and explain my situation, they'll take away my "F"?????? THANKS SO MUCH FOR OYUR RESPONSE!

Yes, sue them.

Do you have copies of the paperwork you submitted to drop the class?

If you have paperwork to prove you called, that’s great, but I’m assuming you don’t. In that case, you should go see a guidance counselor, in person not a phone call, and see if they have any advice. It could be a clerical error in the registrar’s office, for which they have some documentation, but be prepared for bad news. It’s the kind of mistake that a naive high school student would make. No you can’t sue. The mistake was yours, unfortunately, not to have gotten the course drop documented.

By the way, what are the consequences of having the ‘F?’ Is your financial aid jeopardized? Or your transfer to a state U? If that’s the issue, there may be other ways around the problem besides getting the F removed. For example, the guidance counselor could advocate on your behalf with either financial aid or the State U admissions office if they understand the situation and want to be helpful.

I think the implications are more along the lines of college admissions seeing as how the OP is a junior in high school.
