I just finish my Cal 2 final exam and i think i cannot bring my grade to C..I will get a D i think, but i got an A in cal 1 class. Can i retake the same cal 2 class in 2015 spring semester during UC application to restore to GPA?
i wanna kill myself now..

anyone knows what to do…

Yes. Add it to January TAU as a repeat spring course, and put D in the fall grade. Note in comments it’s being retaken. If you have an outside reason for low grade, add it in comments.

You need to file a form at some point depending on your CC’s procedure. (1) Standard class repeat you file at the end. (2) If they offer AR with Repeat (or Retake), not sure when you file that, it may be at start of semester. If the procedure leaves the bad grade on the transcript, don’t worry, it will not be counted in GPA, and it won’t mean anything to the UC. Talk to an advisor to find correct protocol.

BTW, if you swing a C-, you cannot retake the class under almost all circumstances, and definitely cannot repeat a C grade.

If this is a pre-req, it may be weird to say, but you could be better off grabbing a D to retake. Especially if you have a good reason for low grade and can ace the retake.

thanks for replying first. But all people said fall is very important as they count everything as final GPA.Is it really i can retake it in spring in order to replace the grade? will they take my D grade into my GPA consideration when they are ready o accept according to our gpa?

and do you think it is better to get a D to retake it to get higher grade to replace instead of a C- ? thanks

Well it is true they will be basing on fall grades. I forgot to factor that. From that POV a C- may be better. But it’s a bad grade for a pre-req. You should call admissions and the dept and ask. If you have a good reason for the bad grade and have it in the comments and show you are retaking, they may give you conditional. But you are kind of in a bind either way. Is there any way to take it during winter session? Because those grades can be updated in the TAU and then your problem is solved.

the winter calculus is full now…i afraid UCs dont accept me because of the D grade … Without the D i have 3.66 around gpa… I am so lost now because i have to transfer this year since im international transfer student…

All right, so there is a winter session. Good news! YOU NEED TO GET IN IT. The professor usually has some leeway. You need to email him now, state your case and tell him you really need the course ASAP. He may be able to add you or at least put you at the top of the wait list. Someone will most likely drop out. Professors can almost do anything they want in terms of adding students (within reason). You need to convince him. Find his email and email him. If courses are still in session, go to his office hour! Meet him face to face. That’s the best approach.

Are there other community colleges in your district? Look for winter session there, too. Those could work.

but that professor will not let me in as the waiting list is full also…
And i am not in the US in winter for family reason as well this option is impossible
the only way i can do is retake it in spring session…

i worry about will they deny me if i got a D in Cal 2 and can i retake it…

should i send email to ask UC department?

What I would do first is try to get in the class. Assuming you can - and I mean, really, just nicely force the issue, beg, whatever - assuming you get in and course is over end of Jan, you don’t have to say anything. Simply put the D in for fall and follow with the new grade for winter.

If you cannot get into winter session, then contact the UC. The one issue that I see is they will usually never give a direct answer, merely say, we can’t decide until we see it. If you can’t get into winter, you will have to email them, but answer will probably be vague.

BOTTOM LINE:
You have to find a winter session. Perhaps you can take it online. Check California Virtual Campus: cvc.edu

Sorry, I didn’t see post about being away and wait list full.

Ideally if you could retake online and know you can finish by end of Jan that would be best. Because you can 100% change the grade. If you think that is not doable, maybe you should try to get into the C range and take your chances.

What CC are you at?

There’s an online Calc 2, rolling (meaning take any time) at National University. (1) Find out from national how quick you’re allowed to go through it, then (2) find out from UC if it is transferable and will be acceptable as their Calc 2.

<a href=“Online Course Finder – California Virtual Campus”>Online Course Finder – California Virtual Campus;

do you mean I MUST get a C in order to get accepted by them?
do u think the chance of retaking the course in spring is a acceptable way for them?

If you get a C- or above you cannot retake the course. (There are a few exceptions to C-, I forget where the exceptions are, though. In these special cases you can retake a C-.). Having a C in a pre-req, especially Calc, puts you at a disadvantage for sure. But they might let it slide.

Anyway, here is the email for national. At least get a sense of minimum time frame to complete course and if it’s UC transferable. Then verify with UC. If you think you can fit it in these next 8 weeks or so, it may be the way to go:

Re: spring retake, I was spacing when I gave that advice because, as you said, their last term for assessing GPA is fall, so that’s a major risk ending fall with a D. But how do I know. They may give you conditional if you have a good reason for the low grade.

But I would do all I could to retake online. The other two options are both lousy.

Winter grades aren’t factored into the GPA either from what I hear.

exactly winter grade after February wont count there i heard…
the only way i can do now is to retake it in spring but the problem is will the UC let me to retake it and dont count my D into the gpa…

You never know, perhaps you could cram an online course in by end of Jan (end of TAU). You don’t seem that motivated to check the possibilities, however. Did you email National? Nope.

Yes, a D in fall with no back up grade by TAU will most likely disqualify you. I’ve given you all the ideas I have. Good luck.
