Help, failing CP math?!

So, I'm currently a junior at a highly competitive public high school. I've had a bad GPA from slacking off freshman and sophomore year a bit, but I think it is somewhere around a 3.3 currently. I have low class rankings because of my school being so competitive, and ontop of all this I'm failing college prep math, which will basically destroy me. I'm really ignorant towards most things college related, and I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet.
I really want to try to turn my grades around so I can go to a decent college- I don't really care where, just not community college. I'll supply any information you may need that I have, I just really need some advice to point me in the right direction!

what’s the math class? and why are you failing it?

The math class is College Prep Advanced Functions and Modeling. I’m failing it primarily because the teacher is downright horrible and refuses to explain things or give extra help, and I’m just one of those people that math…doesn’t quite sink in.

i’m not sure what you learn in there.

but don’t you have other teachers to ask for help? or maybe there’s a math help? or you could read the book, and/or use internet websites. i don’t want to be mean, but if you’re literally failing, then it’s probably not the teacher’s fault. i can see the teacher making a difference between an a and a b, but failing?

Well yes, I’m hiring a tutor soon- and you’re right I probably shouldn’t have said that. Today in particular while writing this I’m just frustrated with the class.
I realize I do need extra help with it, and that’s what I’m trying to get, but no the other teachers aren’t available so ill have to hire one and do loads of extra studying.
I just want to know what sort of effect it would have on me in the long run if I came out with, let’s say, a D, or ended up failing it.
We have quizzes nearly every other day.
Also with my GPA, and let’s say… Average test scores, what kind of chances for college would I be looking at- just in general?

that’s good that you have a tutor. that’s what i do.

and if you failed a class, especially an on level class, that would be bad. and a d? still fairly bad. but it’s the beginning of the school year; really try for at least a c or something.

and if you take other challenging classes and stay above a 3.0, get average test scores, then you’ll probably get into most colleges, just not super selective ones. ECs help, too.

Okay thank you, yeah I’ll try to shoot for at least a C.
So if I keep my GPA from a 3.0+, do decently on SAT and ACTs, participate in clubs, have a job, lots of community service, ect, I would have a good chance of getting into most non-competitive colleges?
