I have applied to four boarding schools. For me, the acceptance is a must. My parents' VISA is going to run out, so if I don't get an acceptance, I must do homestay. I've applied to Choate Rosemary Hall, St. Pauls School, Phillips Exeter, and Phillips Andover.
As March 10 is daunting now, I'm getting more nervous. I was wondering what other people think of my chances. I thought I had a fairly good chance, but then I found out that the schools only accept about 10-20 new 11th graders each year. That totally changed my point of view.

My application info:

SSAT score: 2274 94% SSAT Percentile of 10th Grade Males
Verbal:755 89% SSAT Percentile of 10th Grade Males
Math: 800 99% SSAT Percentile of 10th Grade Males
Reading: 719 87% SSAT Percentile of 10th Grade Males

1st in class of 242

Sophomore Class President
SCA Treasurer
Boy Scout (Life Rank, one rank away from Eagle scout, Senior Patrol Leader)
Blackbelt in TaeKwon Do
Math and All Around MACC (Academic Competition Team)
I play soccer and football
I have 215 hours of community service
I'm in these clubs: Student Council Association, Oceonagraphy, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Environmental, Youth & America, Goodwill Ambassadors, and Chess

Could you please evaluate and say what you think my chances are? I would like your honest opinion.

Can any parents or students who got into these schools evaluate my chances?

Coolgirl2010, can I ask where was the source that you got your Exeter information from?

I'm also wondering does the SSAT kind of use handicaps for the percentile and scores? For example, does an 8th grader who misses 10 question each section get the same score and percentile as say a 10th grader who misses 2 questions?

Also, does anybody have the facts on how many new juniors are accepted at Phillips Andover, Phillips Exeter, St. Pauls, and Choate Rosemary Hall?

Thank you guys for reading my super-long, ranting posts.

where is your citizenship??
are you applying for financial aid??
I think you academically have a shot.
Also, what classes are you taking?
did you also take the PSATs?

You have chosen very competitive schools--all with very low acceptance rates. In my opinion, you may get in, you may not---I don't see any safety school on your list
You are a solid applicant, but so are most of those you will be competing against

I have a U.S. Citizenship, but my parents are from South Korea. Will this be a disadvantage even though I have a U.S. citizenship? I am also applying for Financial Aid. I thought that Phillips Andover, and Phillips Exeter did needs blind. Does anybody know if Choate and St. Pauls do needs blined as well?

Hi, What is homestay? You are currently living in the US correct? If your parents visas run out, does that mean you need to move to South Korea?

Homestay is when a set of parents are your legal parents in the country, and often, your parents in another country reimburse these homestay parents for food, rent, etc. I currently live in Virginia, but when my parents VISA's run out, I will need to move to South Korea, unless I do homestay.

Oh, thanks for the explanation. I never heard of that before. Stupid question, but how can you be a US citizen if your parents are both South Korean?

Did you explain about your parents visas running out to the 4 schools? Will the schools consider you an US citizen, or will they consider you international? I know some schools consider you international even if you are American, with American parents, but you are currently living in another country cuz your parents are working over there. I know Exeter is need blind, but is it harder to get FA if you are considered international?

I got that number from my interviewer, haha. I asked her what percentage of incoming 11th graders they are accepting (I'm also applying for 11th grade) and she said that they are taking around 40 applicants.

Exeter and Andover's 1tth grade acceptances are larger than 20 I think, although I can't remember any exact numbers.
St. Paul's are ridiculously small, I think like 5-6.
I don't know about choate.

Best of luck to you! I'm applying to 11th too! :)

You sound like a very academically oriented person. Since you are an american citizen, I doubt that they will consider you an international. How much financial aid do you need? I know that Choate is very generous in financial aid, but it may play a factor in your acceptance in all the schools.

jwyang13, I am in the same situation as you are in with the FA and parents' citizenship. Admission officers have told my mom that if your parents do not pay taxes here, it is very hard to get a solid FA because you are considered as a international student. But they also have told me that they do provide solide FA for a few inter. students and it looks to me that you have a great chance of being the few.
