Help figuring out where to apply?

What state do you live in? There may be some good state universities that do not cost very much in your state.

For other schools, [Virginia Tech](http://www.vt.edu/) and the [California State Universities](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>http://www.csumentor.edu/) are less expensive than most out of state public schools or private schools.

For the California State Universities, your [eligibility index](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU) is 2.92 * 800 + 1450 = 3786. You can check to see how selective each school and major is [here[/url]. For example, [url=<a href=“http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1224.html]San”>http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1224.html]San Jose State University](http://calstate.edu/SAS/impaction-campus-info.shtml) required a 3501 eligibility index for out of state freshmen for fall 2011, or the in-state minimum for the major, whichever was higher. For fall 2011 in-state applicants to Computer Science, the minimum was 3300, but the minimum for the similar Software Engineering major was 2900.

(With your interest in computer science, SJSU CS or SE would be a reasonable choice if your stats do not get you into a better known for CS school – “Silicon Valley” companies often recruit at SJSU because it is right in their back yard and they do not have to deal with air travel logistics to visit the career center.)
