HELP!!! Financail Aid Appeal Letter!!

Is this a good appeal letter and what do you think my chance are for getting aid back?

The Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Committee,

My name is _____. I am writing to ask you to appeal my suspension of federal aid for the fall semester. The spring semester was very difficult for me. I was transferring from Fort Valley State University which was too expensive for me so I could not afford books so that also put me behind but I did not give up. I am one of the first to go to college from my single parent home so failure was not an option for me. I had a choice to either drop out or try for another less expensive school so that is why I am here at _. I could not afford to stay close to the school so I faced with everyday to try to find a ride there and back. My mom does not own a car so it was harder than it sounds. I dropped my morning class because I could not find a way to the school. I would rather receive a W instead of an F. I do realize this dropped my academic progress but I refused to give up.

I do realize I neglected my studies and I take full responsibility for it. I have mapped out a plan and talked to my advisor and the academic student affairs center. I would like another chance to succeed at a sesemter here at _________. I have complied a list of things that will make this semester a success.
1. I do not work full time anymore and I have much more time to focus and study. Not being full time will give me time to go to study groups, helpful meetings, and meet with tutors.
2. I have talked to my professor personally this week to ask them what are some things I could do to make sure that this year will be successful
3. I have my schedule set up so that I will not be overwhelmed and have a manageable time for class and studying. Unlike last semester where I was trying to leave school, work and run back to school.
4. I will not drop any classes and push myself forward to succeed.

I want to continue with school but without financial aid, I will not be able too. Things have changed and I have a better state of mind. I worked so hard this summer I have started looking into apartments here close to campus and my grandmother provided me with a car. Nothing will stop me from my studies and having a successful year. I just want to thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider my letter and give me another chance. I am a hardworking student and I do not give up at all. I will work hard to reach my goal. I am just asking you to give me a chance to meet my goal.

I think you need to shorten it up a little and fix all of your spelling and grammatical errors. You have extreme difficulty with writing and it’s very evident in this letter. (ex: “I have complied a list”- COMPLIED is to “agree with”; what you were looking for is the word “compile” which means to “put together in a set or book”. It should say: I have compILED a list). Or you could just have had a typo.

If you approach someone with the above letter, he/she will not be impressed by your inability to write a cohesive paragraph. Get some help with this first!!!

The Financial Aid Office receives all kinds of appeal letters, with exactly the same information: I didn’t have transportation, I (or family member) got sick, etc. I had time management issues, etc. In other words hundreds of students are writing appeal letters with sob stories indicating how they wont be able to attend your college without financial aid help.

In your letter you need to state proof of what you will provide. Can you provide in your “plan” how your grades will specifically change? Have you looked into the tutoring program in your major, and can you cite which days and times you will attend? Have you fixed your transportation issues? How? How will they remember your letter?

You have to remember that they have hundreds of students with your similar circumstances that WERE able to succeed despite similar personal problems. The FA office has a small pot of money to divide amongst a LOT of students. If you fail, then that money can go to a student who has proven that they won’t fail. Once they run out of money, it’s gone for the year. At this time of year, it will be difficult. Good luck.
