So I have to decide in a matter of days. I have been fretting over this for months, so I need you guys to sway me one way or the other. Many thanks. This would be at the U of I if I get in.

You’re not even accepted into college and you have to decide in a matter of days what your major is?

Double major.

If you go with Economics, be sure to focus on the quantitative side and use all your economics electives on applied/business, statistical, etc… focused courses. Also take additional, preferably applied/business, full statistics courses. Accounting electives would also be very helpful with your job opportunities as well.

Some of the best business people did not even take business to begin with. Something to think about.

Assuming you mean U of Illinois, accounting. It’s perennially a top program.

102…like who? I’ll bet that most of the people you name will have graduated from schools that do not have a business program or they are of an age that when they went to college there was no such thing. Since he isn’t planning on going to an ivy league which doesn’t have a business program that comment doesn’t relate.

At lower ranked schools it is better to major in business if that’s your planned career path.

Assuming he’s hasn’t already applied, he doesn’t have the option to major in electrical engineering or some other engineering discipline at UIUC, so don’t bother mentioning that either.
