Okay, here's the thing: high SAT 1 and 2 scores. 4s and 5s on APs. like 3.9ish unweighted and ~4.5 weighted. But lack of extracurriculars and community service. i hold positions in campus clubs (1 prez, 1 vice, 1 secretary), but i know that's not good enough compared to what these CCs are doing. i have recognition and rewards but again, they're minimal compared to what the members on this forum have. so... i plan to apply 2 a college that considers academics a lot more than ECs... Would Stanford work? If not, suggest some other schools please? thx.

Stanford will be a reach, especially if you are noticing any deficiency in your application package. There are certainly schools out there that are more numbers-oriented (I've heard this about Wash U in Saint Louis, for example). These would likely be schools with the highest numbers of applicants. It follows that they would have less time to review each application and may rely more on your numbers.

My best advice, though, is to not settle. Take a year off and build up those ECs. It's not a bad thing, no matter what parents think. Of course, you have to do something smart with the year. Check out Interim Programs at www.interimprograms.com. Then you'll have many more open doors to consider.

Ah, JMcGee, Stanford is a reach for pretty much all applicants, maybe one out of every one hundred can say its a match.

The guy has high SAT scores and a fantastic GPA... and he is clearly devoted to several ECs where he holds leadership positions. Its not like he's showing he's lazy as hell or anything, as the president of a club at my school I know that it can take up way too much of your time.

I think its ridiculous that he would take a year off to boost his ECs.
