help! find reach, match, safety. please!

im going to be a senior this fall. i know this is a bit late that's why i need some help. ><
any suggestion will be appreciated. =)

im a girl. i go to a pretty hard high school.
hs gpa: 95.6 i guess that's around a 3.9 if converted? i don't know what it is if weighted.
been in math honors for 3 terms.
ap: 6 aps by end of hs. taken 4 so far.
world history:3 (fail)
ap physics b: 5
im waiting for the letter for the other two - calc bc and foreign language. should be arriving next week. i will update.
this year i'll take physics c, econ macro micro. mutivariate cal and differential equations are not ap but i guess they are hard classes.
sat: 2110
660 verbal
650 writing
800 math.
2150 if superscript/combined. going to take it again in oct
sat ii:
math1 790
math2 800
physics 760
chem 740
foreign language 800

extra cirricular: im on a sports team, we've been city champs past 3 years. done plenty of community service, like 300 hr +. in science olympiad. in national honors society. in a couple other clubs. captain of an academic club team.

if any additional info is needed please tell me.

i did not grow up here hence the low verbal and writing score. but i don't know if admission offices are going to take that into consideration.
i lean more towards math and science. im looking for engineering schools, architecture schools, not sure which i will major.
i like big schools so at least two thousand undergrad.
perfer the north east or the west coast.
im pretty big on names.

any help will be appreciated!!!

go for a UC

thanks hiilikeyoux3!
best UC for engineering is berkeley?
and are there any ivys that im reachable?

What’s your home state? Will you need Financial Aid?

home state ny
and yes, i do need financial aid, and a lot.

If you need FA then you should look at the SUNYs (Stony Brook and Buffalo). The UCs will not be sending any FA$ your way. For privates look at RPI and WPI.

yep CAL is the best engineering school.
well it depends
UCLA is known for aerospace and nnautical
and UCSB is good for engineering also

but CAL is the best

im not too sure about ivies.

oh erinsdad is right
UC doesnt give much money- most UC students reply onCAL grants and thats only in california

if you need lots of it then maybe somewhere else bc outta state tuition might kill you but then again its not unheard of for UC’s to give full rides

“I’m pretty big on names”

Remember…fit/academic quality over prestige is the name of the game

^^ Kind of goes against this, eh Pierre?
"and yes, i do need financial aid, and a lot. "

well i need a lot financial aid. but i think i can get a lot if based on need. and i’ll apply for a couple of scholarships.

well for stony brook and buffalo, i get basically get in with a 3.5 gpa and a 1900 sat.
and i don’t think they have good engineering program also.

Take a look at Cornell. Great engineering and architecture, although the admissions are separate for the two. I think admissions officers will understand your verbal and writing being a little low if English is not your first language.

thanks midwesterner!
im thinking of cornell as well. their arch. school is really hard to get in, number 1 /2 in the past years. in addition i don’t have a portfolio, so i guess i might as well apply for their engineering school.
what do you think my chances are for cornell? will it be a reach or match?

Cornell is a reach for just about everyone, but I think it is the engineering school is a worthwhile reach for you. Girls tend to have a slight advantage in male-dominated fields like engineering. Architecture without a portfolio is going to be verrry tough.

Jsut so you know, Cornell gives a tuition break to NY state residents, but not in the eng, arch or liberal arts colleges. Your toughest challenge may not be getting in but finding a way to pay for it all.

I know you have a good chance at Cornell Engineering (2 of D’s roommates were female Cornell engineering majors) given–

 • your SAT II scores
 • your math SAT score
 • your being a female
 • your ability to explain you verbal and writing scores.

If you are truly interested in Cornell and make it known, I believe you will be accepted.

If you’re a NYer and need aid, you’d potentially be looking at a full ride at Temple. We have engineering and architecture.

[College of Engineering - Temple University](http://www.temple.edu/engineering/)

[Welcome to the Architecture Department of the Tyler School of Art](http://www.temple.edu/architecture/)

Thanks everyone! =)
i made a list - but it’s too long. i’ll be very grateful if someone can help me cut it down.

carnegie mellon
cornell
cooper union
caltech
mit
uc berkeley
binghamton
columbia
john hopkins
stanford
harvard
williams college
u of chicago
washington u in st.louis
northwestern

That’s incredibly top heavy.

If you’re at all interested in women’s colleges, take a look at Smith. It’s the only women’s college to offer a program in engineering, it’s a match for you, and though it may seem a bit small (2,500) in and of itself it’s part of the Five College Consortium through which you can take classes at 4 other schools and meet 30,000+ other college students.

update on ap scores:
calc bc : 5
foreign language : 5
