Help! Finding a college for me

I am a current senior at a catholic high school. I have applied and been accepted to a few state schools in the southeastern United States. I’m looking for schools that provide out of state tuition waivers/ or scholarships that cover most to all of the out of state fee. School size isn’t a huge factor, but bigger is better.

ACT: 27 (English-32, reading-34, science-23, math-19)
GPA: 3.0
Extracurricular: sports, multiple volunteer positions, part time job

Any suggestions for OOS waivers, etc. as well as schools that are still accepting applications would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m guessing you’re leaning toward social sciences based on your ACT scores. I’m also guessing you believe you can afford the cost of in-state tuition.

Would those guesses be accurate?

Yes, I’m leaning towards some sort of environmental sciences degree but my college choice is not necessarily dependent upon what major I can choose. My parents will pay tuition for around as much as in state tuition would cost at the large state school here in my home state.

What is your state of residence?

Your test scores and GPA will likely work against you in regard to awards of merit-based scholarships. Here are some websites where you can browse the GPA/test score (and other) requirements that different schools use to award scholarships:

There are some state schools that are part of tuition consortia, or which recognize residents of adjacent states, that allow for payment of in-state tuition rates for OOS students. For example, Southern Illinois University grants in-state rates to the residents of “border” states: http://admissions.siu.edu/cost/alternate-tuition-rates/border-state.php

Here is a link to a consortium for southern schools that may allow waiver of OOS tuition rates for the study of certain academic subjects: http://www.sreb.org/page/1304/academic_common_market.html
