Help finding a college that doesn't suck

So I'm extremely disappointed in the college I'm currently attending, and I intend to transfer. There are a few things I'm looking for the college/university to have. The college search sites can't really show certain things, so hopefully someone can help me out.

-First of all, I am currently a resident of Pennsylvania. This is a big problem, because I REALLY hate the cold. (More than you can even imagine)
My point being I would like to find somewhere out of state and warm. Money is not a major concern, but I'm definitely looking for somewhere under 20k

-Most of the people at my current university tend to be stupid, trashy, ***-bags... To paint the picture for you, people walk around in shorts when its snows because they want to look like "hard-asses". I have an English class that is identical to a HS class I took in 9th grade, except this class is easier. Yet half the class has to cheat just to pass. Everyone breaks *. I mean people vandalize things just because they can...
Basically, I'd like a school that has a student body that is the opposite of that.

-I want to find a school that's in an area where there are fun things to do. There's nothing to do where I currently am, except drugs. I do like to party, but that is the ONLY thing to do around here.

-I am planning on majoring in computer science or a similar major. Obviously I want the college to have decent program for my major.

I appreciate any comments. Thanks for your help.

Stats???

Michigan fits the bill perfectly! Well, actually… it’s even colder BUT the students are exactly the opposite of what you describe. It’s very good for computer science majors too, have you ever heard of [Bill Joy](Bill Joy - Wikipedia)?

Ok, I guess I didn’t really think about everything I should have posted… haha
So here is some info. I don’t know what else I should post.

SATs:
-650 Reading
-660 Math
-600 Writing

My Current QPA:
2.556

I’m a Caucasian male.
I currently have 81 credits earned.
Does anything still matter about High School at this point?

Let me know if you want to know anything specific.

I live in Philly and wear shorts when it snows/is cold; does that mean I do it to look like a ‘hard-ass’?

Recharge:
I looked up Michigan and the out-of-state tuition is listed as about $35 thousand, so that’s probably a bit too expensive anyway.

diontechristmas:
I duno. Why are you asking me? If you’re really trying to start a fight on a forum about that, then yea prolly…

I’m asking because it’s an absolutely absurd reason for disliking the people at your school.

I don’t think there us anywhere you can transfer OOS for less than 20K unless you qualify for need based grants. Some on this forum have pointed out that colleges are less generous to transfers.

Well its not really helpful to me if this thread goes in this direction, so I’m just going to leave it at this:
I don’t hate people for wearing shorts. I just dislike a majority of people here because they go out of their way to uphold their “hard-ass” image and tend to be really rude and be complete dicks to just about everyone.

you may want to consider cal poly san luis obispo
they have respectable programs in engineering (comparable to computer science?) and very nice weather
the tuition is also fairly cheap

GTalum:
Maybe I didn’t explain that right. I know there are OOS schools under 20k a year. Were you talking about annual cost?

With a quick search on college board it found 204 OOS colleges within that range.

If you could find 204 OOS colleges within the range you are considering then you need to pare that down and ask about a shorter list of schools. And see if that list is COA or just tuition.

Consider UCs. You may be able to get into UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, Riverside… and maybe even Davis or Santa Barbara. California has the weather you’re looking for, and next year UCs are substantially increasing the number of students they take from out of state. Although might be more expensive than you’re looking for.

I also second Cal Poly SLO.

quomodo, the UC’s are really really into grades for incoming freshmen…the GPA would nix him at those schools, although I don’t know about transfer students

I dunno, I suspect students at all these UC campuses walk around wearing shorts in the winter …

Wow, 204 schools OOS for less tham 20K? Not just tuition and not with estblishing in-state residency? Southeast Universities and relatively inexpensive for in-state folks. But none of them are less than 30+K for OOS.

i am from pa too… and i think that the washington dc area would be a great place…

Look at some public southern schools with comp sci departments. Maybe look at the tennessees or carolinas or something. I’m transferring for similar reasons to you! Thing is, my school doesn’t even have the parties. I think I have you beat :p

Also I have to agree that the shorts thing is kinda preposterous. I wear shorts in the winter too…

GTalum:
I was just talking about tuition, but I think there actually are still some SE universities that would be below 20k. Of course they might not be particularly high quality…

Ok seriously people, can we drop the whole shorts conversation? I said “snow”; I never said winter. I don’t think… ha
