Sorry I couldn't come up with a more interesting title but I could really use some help here. I'm having trouble finding a college that fits me. I need one preferably in California or Colorado (New York as my only other consideration). I'm hoping for a four-year university that would accept a 3.0 GPA. Not too interested in Cal States or UCs because they don't allow any D's and I got one in Spanish one semester in my Sophomore year. Hopefully a place that isn't too expensive, but that isn't completely necessary. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my interests are music and creative writing.

Home state is California. Family is relatively poor. I’m getting my SAT scores back next week and taking the ACT December 6th. I’m confident that I did really well on the SAT though.

Yeah, my family is poor, but I’m willing to take student loans to pay for the expenses if I have to. I’d prefer it to be inexpensive. On the SAT, I’d say that I got in 1800-1900 realm.

Unless you have a well off cosigner, getting loans above the federal will unfortunately be difficult. And those are a drop in the bucket.

I would HIGHLY recommend retaking the class you got a D in, if money is limited the state schools may well end up your best options. Publics on other states are unlikely to give you much if any aid and private colleges that meet need require kore than a 3.0.

The unfortunate fact is if the family can not afford to pay and the student doesn’t have strong stats, in state schools are where most have to go.

Don’t rule out the University of Wyoming, out of state tuition is only $12,000 (room and board included) which is only about 1k more than a typical UC in-state tuition. The University of Wyoming is only 25 miles from the border of Colorado, you fall within their typical GPA range, and you get a state’s name attached to your diploma. I would definitely at least take a look at it.
