Holy Cross has very strong science program.

Hamilton and Haverford also have brand new science centers that are state of the art - something to consider and also something that should help their science reputations over time. A few top ranked LACs have recognized programs, but dated facilities, so it may be window dressing, but it’s something to think about.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I was interested in Williams and Amherst at first but heard they were not very well known for the sciences. I know this is to be expected since they’re liberal arts colleges, but do either of them particularly stand out for premed/biology/public health among LACs?

^ Williams more than Amherst. Look at the NSF statistics rhg3rd cited, above. Williams ranks 16th for S&E PhD production rates, Amherst 29th. (Holy Cross does not make the top 50, by the way).

Amherst has taken a long time to bring a new science center on line. It apparently won’t open until Fall 2018 (https://www.amherst.edu/aboutamherst/science_at_amherst/new_science_center).

Whether a school is “well known” for the sciences should not matter too much. Some very small colleges educate more PhD-holding scientists, on an institution-size-adjusted basis, than many much better-known schools (<a href=“Doctoral Degree Productivity - Institutional Research - Reed College”>http://www.reed.edu/ir/phd.html). In terms of both science PhD production and the percentage of students majoring in sciences, Carleton is very strong.

My d is a double humanities major who graduated from Rochester, an outstanding university with a very flexible curriculum. She was not a science major however we did learn when she applied to Oberlin about their excellent science program. Oberlin is not everyone’s cup of tea. While the school offers many options, personally I felt the location to remote for our liking.
Brandeis is excellent for science. As for LAC you might also look at Colgate and Franklin and Marshall. I cannot recall if you are female but if so, Smith, Mt. Holyoke and Wellesley are also strong contenders and offer merit money.
