When I ask people on here for admission help they always tell me to get some research experience (I am a sophomore). How do I do that? I'm really clueless. Nobody around my area has ever done research anywhere. Neither of my parents went to college so that's no help.
I live in Michigan and am about a half hour from U of M Ann Arbor and about 45 mins from Wayne State. How would I go about looking for research or something like that? I am hoping to do it during the summer around mid July on. Any thoughts?

How about applying to some research programs next year - RSI for one example
... or if you're age is 16+, go to the NIH website and look around.
It might help if you try calling some of the research professors at U of M Ann Arbor and asking if a high schooler can help around - you can ask for basic lab help first ...

The only problem is that it would almost have to be this summer. I am planning to take Honors Physics and AP Chem at CTD at northwestern between my junior and senior year. Do you think it would be better for me to do the research then the courses (my school offers honors physics but not AP Chem, the only AP science class we have is Bio and I really hated bio and love chem. Plus I wanted an AP science.)

Also I haven't taken the PSAT yet.

I am also looking for some science related research positions in the South-eastern Michigan area during the summer holidays. I know that Wayne State has some good programs, however, I am only a freshman. Any advice?

You could get more flexibility with your schedule by taking distance courses for AP chem.

Some programs for that (not sure which have AP chem):

And there are probably many more.
