Help Finding Safety Schools

Hi! I currently have a laundry list of schools, eighteen of them, that I plan to apply to in the fall. My problem is that the majority of these school are matches, with a few reaches. I have 1-2 safeties, but honestly I do not really like them very much.

I am looking for schools in major cities, or schools that are close to cities. Basically, I am not trying to be in the middle of nowhere, haha. So if you could suggest safety schools based on my stats, that would be awesome!

I do not really have a financial limitation, just as a btw.

Here are my stats.

I have approximately a 3.7 UW GPA, however my school does not give out weighted or actual GPAs, so I only know my percentage is a 92.6 and 92.6/25 = 3.7.

I have a 31 on the ACT (English: 31 Math: 28 Reading: 33 Science: 31 Combined English/Writing: 30 [Writing was a 10]). I am retaking in September and HOPING and PRAYING for a 32-33.

I took the SAT, however I am not submitting it.

7 AP courses by graduations (AP Lang, AP Lit, AP US History, AP Cogo, AP Macro, AP Spanish, and AP Environmental Science). I might be self-studying AP Micro, if my school lets me, because my school does not offer it.

Also, possible interesting fact, I have voluntarily taken two online courses through my high school, and many people do not take this opportunity.

ECS:
300+ hours of working at a coffee shop.
National Honor Society member.
President and founder of Spanish Club at my school.
Been a member of a local improv troupe for seven years straight. My team has been in a few national improv marathons.
Been in 4 musicals throughout high school.
Been in 2 shakespeare productions.
Been in 1 drama production.
Member of A Capella Club.
Member of Literary Magazine.
Member of Chinese Club.
Volunteer at an after school arts program.

Where are you in-state? And I would find it helpful to see the list of schools you’re planning on applying to to help gauge culture, etc. Thanks!

@Nattybow2015

New York, I am looking at SUNY Binghamton and SUNY University at Buffalo as possible state schools. My college list is schools like:

American University
Boston University
Clark University
Emerson College
Emory
Fordham
The George Washington University
McGill University
Northeastern University (Most Likely Applying ED)
UMD CP
UMN Twin Cities
Pitt
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY University at Buffalo
Tulane
University of Washington

Does this help you??

If you’re interested in Theater, add Temple to your list. It is a near-safety, more affordable than some other out-of-state public universities, and has a good, non-audition, Theater BA major.

Oh sorry, I am applying to school for either international relations or political science, I looked at Temple, but honestly did not like it. @woogzmama

What was wrong with Syracuse?

And where is Stony Brook on your list? Not urban enough? It’s very good for poli sci, so it’s a nice option to have, in-state.

@Dunboyne Syracuse is not urban enough for me, I like the campus, but I want to be in a big bustling city. I visited Stony Brook, but I did not like it much, also, I would be wary of calling it a safety.

Binghamton isn’t exactly bustling, either. Stony Brook is a match. I was just wondering why you don’t have the best in-state option for poli sci on your list. You must be full pay.

@Dunboyne My main interest in international relations, and that program is not as on par. Also, they only have international studies which is not exactly the same.

That’s more than a BTW. So your parents are willing to pay >$65K for college each year? Good for you. For another option look at Lewis and Clark in Portland OR.

Why McGill and not U of T? I wouldn’t call the Twin Cities a big city or bustling either. Why not NYU?
