Need Help Finding a Boarding School
- 11th Grade
- All A's (Honor Classes with Honor Roll Each Year)
- Nationally Ranked Tennis Player from Alabama
- Eagle Scout
- Need little less than half FA
- Student Council
Looking for a smaller school less than 500 students that is preppy, stresses academics, and has a good college matriculation.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Are you applying for 11th grade, or are you currently in 11th grade? Would you consider repeating a grade? Would you consider single gender school? Can you share a bit about why you want to attend boarding school? Are you ranked within 150 for Juniors?
I suggest you look at boardingschoolreview.com and get a more narrowed down list of schools that fit what you’re looking for. Once you figure that out, the forum members will be better able to guide you
I saw tennis and smaller school and though Cheshire Academy. Two family friends went there and last year they were both nationally ranked tennis players. Not as preppy though, just a thought.
Middlesex
Concord academy
Lawrence academy
Milton (I think the highschool is less than 500)
Thayer
Tabor
To the OP: I suggest you also look at Berkshire, as it seems to fit what you may be looking for - they have a good tennis program and squash program.
I have several relatives who were very accomplished at tennis. The only one who decided to go pro attended Nick Bolletairi’s Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. (I have probably misspelled his last name.) Can be googled easily under IMG Academy or IMG Tennis Academy.
Otherwise, consider the Cate School in California.
Not sure about the vitality of tennis programs in New England. As you probably know, the most active tennis community in the US is in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Nothing like it in the New England region of the US.
If IMG’s evaluation doesn’t work out–also, limited financial aid–, in addition to the Cate School, you should consider Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania as well as Peddie School, Blair Academy & the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey.
Ok. Thanks so much for the feedback. I will be applying as an 11th grader and would like a coed school. I am looking for a traditional New England Boarding Schoo to attend for the academic experience and mainly the overall experience of going to boarding school. I am ranked within 200 but not looking to play tennis in college.
My GPA for freshman and sophomore year so far is a 3.89 unweighted and my PSAT is in 89% percentile.
I am pretty sure Choate has a good tennis team.
