We are taking our freshman daughter to Gulf Shores for Spring Break. Since I am sure this will most likely be the last Spring Break she will want to spend with us, I would like to make the most of it. I was thinking of stopping somewhere (Bluebell like for Hart of Dixie fans) between Tuscaloosa and Gulf Shores on our way down on Friday. The top runner so far, based on my limited research, is Selma.

Alternatively, you might have better luck finding a Bluebell, Alabama in Georgia. Film tax credits and production equipment availability mean that most US movies and TV shows are primarily filmed in either Georgia, California, New York, Ontario, British Columbia, or occasionally Louisiana. For example, the movie Sweet Home Alabama had only a couple scenes filmed in Alabama, with the majority being filmed in Georgia.

I agree with looking at Fairhope, Alabama or Senoia, Georgia just outside of Newnan, Georgia. Lots of filming is done there and it is a very small town similar to the show. Zachary Brown runs a restaurant/bar there and is building a large camp facility for children nearby.

I can assure you it is not Selma. I grew up in Selma and it is a very dark, depressing run down town with high crime. Originally I thought Bluebell was likely based on Fairhope, but then in Season 2, they mention going “up to Fairhope” to pick oranges. So, I don’t think it is really based on any one particular town in the area. The town square scenes were filmed in NC and then the town square was rebuilt on a stage in CA. (If you watched Gilmore Girls, you will recognize the town square and a lot of the buildings).
