I got accepted to UCSD, but first semester of senior year I got a D and a 2.8 weighted GPA...

What should I do?!

&

Will they rescind? And when will I know this by?

Thanks!

You need to call UCSD rather than asking faceless people on the internet. I think you have a good chance of being rescinded but that’s their decision.

They will only see the final grades - work hard! No senioritis! You have time to pull it up.

Far better to contact the school and throw your self on their mercy (along with your mature plans and improved grades for the remainder of the senior year) than to wait in dread by the mailbox.

They do not know that you CARE unless you tell them you do. They do not know if you are spending every day being soused in the local tavern unless you COMMUNICATE that you are now in class and fervently chasing every grade point with diligence.

So, communicate.

^Hmm, are you sure? I’m not sure how it works when schools make acceptances before midyear reports, since most colleges have this information when they make decisions.

But a D is bad. Work to get it up to at least a C, since I believe UC policy is that a D or F will get you rescinded. Tutoring, extra studying, dropping ECs to focus on this class–whatever you need to do. At this point, that one grade is really all that matters.

The UC policy doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be rescinded if you get a D. But your admission is contingent on reporting any Ds immediately, and the policy is to rescind all students who do not do this.

If the D is in a required course (such as Alg II), then you will automatically be rescinded bcos you will not have fulfilled the minimum requirements for admissions. If the course is a non a-g elective such as PE, UC won’t care – as long as you graduate. If the course is a a-g elective, you had better learn how to grovel – write them a letter, explain what happened, and your plan of action to pull a B second semester. Better yet, include a short rec from the teacher of that subject showing his/her support and that you have improved your efforts and your current course work is a 85%.

it’s much better to notify them and talk with them directly rather than wait for your school to send a final transcript and have ucsd find out that way.

well i already did notify them about my D in my calc class. i am done with a first semester and in second semester so i cannot pull my grade D up, so … what I should do is call them up still even though I notified them already? and i am planning to do my best second semester … what u guys think?

they will rescind. good luck OP

well… were there any legit reasons for this drop (i.e. medical, personal issues, etc.)?
