What advice can you guys give me that could help me concentrate more? I can concentrate well on the math and usually on the writing sections, but on the CR section and I can barely concentrate, if at all

I was in the same situation. On test day, I wrote "future" on my test during CR and writing whenever my attention began to wane. I usually suck at passage-based reading questions simply because I forget everything I read since I was never concetrating. On the March SAT, I got 800 CR and 770 W, (up from 71 CR and 72 W on the PSAT in October or something) so it must have worked.

I also wrote down the name of the only person who means anything to me and thought about what it would mean to them if I did well...

Concentration, hmm....

I just thought about my girlfriend if I found myself in a bind. Although that may seem distracting to some, it helped me concentrate enormously. She's a great inspiration.

Well I'm not really into the whole love scene, I'm just so mad because my writing and math scores usually always average to 1400, but my CR brings me down so terribly!

And it's always one of the 3/4 CR sections that screw me up horrendously

haha avereageteen wahetever works i geuss

i suggest NO DOZ, i had the same prob with concentrating cuz i know i could do better than how i was doin,

its safe, just like coffee, i take one before i study and take pracitces tests, it works!

Is it an energy drink?

Oh also, does anyone have any specific help on the 24 question sections where there's 2 long passages?

caffeine pills

Do they sell them at any convenience stores/major retailers?

If you want REAL focusing power, take an adderall pill (find someone with ADD and buy one off him). Other than that, if you can't concentrate on the CR you're sort of screwed...energy drinks might just make you jittery. Underline and jot notes.

eloquence, yes they do, i bought em at walgreens

i wouldnt take addy though cuz u could ge tin trobule cuz its prescript, but i did hear that addy is pretty good, if u cant get that i would put a safebet on no doz. in fact im boutta take one now cuz i gotta take a barrons sat II prac test for math1c,

What I do when I get to a passage, Is I first look at the questions and find the given lines for the passage questions and make a dash next to them. Then, I read through the passage and (this may sound odd) imagine it as if someone else is saying it to you, not the voice you normally think with in your head.

Try to imagine your friend telling you the story in your mind and how they would accentuate the words (but not too hard, this is just to help with tone and keep my attention. Your friend is not going to be saying "However, I find this boring and dull!" with a positive tone.)

Think about how they would be saying it to you. Then when you get to a line that you have a question, answer it. This helps you know what the question is about, and have a break from reading. Then you don't have to skim the passage again, tediously looking for that sentence.

Another thing you can do that I haven't needed to try, is to buy an large block eraser and take a black pen. Using the pen, you can write something like "WORK!" on each side in large letters. Try to keep it on your answer sheet or where ever you'll look to help remind you that you need to keep going.

Call me crazy, but it's what I've been doing.

I had the exact problem as you in CR before. I would underline and use your pencil to guide you along as you read.
