Help For 2011 Fellows Applicants!

I know this is going to seem super early, but if anyone at any point needs help with their Fellows Application, please post here or PM me and I’ll be more than willing to help. Although I wasn’t chosen for Fellows, I was a finalist. I’m not going to Bama, but can offer some insight on the whole process and can especially help some northern students!

Hi Rocket6!

Hope all is going well for you! When do you start at Smith?

Hi mom2!
I go up August 31st and start September 7th. :D

Good luck, rocket! Be sure to let us know how you’re doing.

What is the fellows program and what are minimum test scores one should have to even consider pursuing?

If you have an ACT 32+, then you’re invited to apply.

If you have an ACT 28-31, you can get a recommendation from your GC.

(or equivalent SAT scores)

Most of the kids I met who were finalists had a 32. I had a 34 as did one other girl. There were also 3 kids with 29s who did the GC rec.

They care MUCH more about your volunteering than GPA. You should be very dedicated to a cause to consider applying

rocket6louise,

So based on your experience what do you think of someone with the following having a chance at the fellows program:

Weighted GPA: 4.71 (will be first or second in graduating class)
ACT: 34
Community Service: over 400 hours
Governor’s Award for top volunteer in county in 2010
Recognition from Prudential for service/volunteering
Letter winner in 4 sports (honorable mention all region)
President National Honor Society
President Math Club
VP Student Body
Student Govt. Representative
Academic Awards in Calculus, Honors English, Honors Physics, Algebra II and several others
Boys State (Chief Justice)
Member of award winning show choir
Spring musicals participant

Those are probably the big items.

I think that if they write a very good essay(and one that really shows who they are, I wrote mine about a tattoo and EVERYONE remembered it), then yes, there’s a VERY good shot
