I am looking to help my niece and nephew (7 and 8th grade) get into local state school for BSC to further career in medicine. I have no information about education in pakistan but i can help them with SAT/ACT. S it possible for them to go to highschool in states? I can also provide logistical support (car, food, lodging) for them as well in states. Are they bettter off studying in pakistan? Any there any good websites or books i can look into for more information? Thanks
I will assume you are using the word “states” to mean USA.
Your niece and nephew are not even high schools. They have LONG ways to go… What is BSC?
They cannot just come to the USA because they want to. There are several things you must know.
In the United States, you go to undergraduate first. You study general education requirements like history, science(physics, biology, chemistry, etc), mathematics, English and whatnot. Then you focus on your major and hopefully finish it in 4 years. If you cannot afford 48~60k/yr * 2=96k~120k per year for your relatives, they better study VERY HARD to get at least full tuition merit scholarships from good mid-tier schools(fortunately there ARE some private and state schools that offer merit scholarships.)
Then, you apply to medical schools before 4th year of your undergrad. This will be very costly in term of application fees, test fees, and travel fees if you get interviews(you have to travel to them. They don’t come to you). Not only that, the majority of the USA med schools do NOT accept international students. Those that do, are super competitive. Also, many med schools that do accept international stuednts tend to require them to provide a proof of ability to pay for the cost of attendance. This is kinda similar to undergrad, except most international-accepting med schools want to see if you can pay TWO years of COA, or even ALL FOUR YEARS OF COA. It depends on med schools, but if your relatives dont get a single penny of institutional aid or outside scholarships, they are out of luck. Whether you can sign loans for them(Are you a citizen?), it depends on each school.
Do they have green cards? Are your niece and nephew good in math and science? While majors don’t matter in admission itself, statistics show that people with STEM(science, technology, engineering, mathematics) tend to do better.
