Help for a Deferred student!

Hi everyone! I was recently deferred by the university and was wondering what else I could do?? I already sent in my mid-year report, but I feel like the rejection later on would ultimately be placed on me for not doing more during these next two months. Should I write a letter? Or maybe send in a unique letter of rec?
Let me know if anyone else got deferred and if you all did something extra!
Thanks!!

Hi awkytown - Of all the decisions I think the deferral may be the hardest. Hang in there, you obviously had some great things to offer that UVa wasn’t willing to pass up on without a second look! Are you familiar with the Deferred Student Information page on the Admissions Website? It covers some commonly asked questions and FAQ, like sending additional materials (or not).

[Deferred Student Information | Office of Undergraduate Admission](http://admission.virginia.edu/defer)

Hopefully you’ll get some responses from some previously deferred to accepted students who can give you some advise. Best of luck!!

I sent a letter (talked about me, why I wanted to go, and how I would go if admitted)… I guess it helped as I got in! I would also do this quickly and then move on. Do not think of it either way (like… don’t depress yourself over possibly not getting in, but don’t keep your hopes up either) but start making other plans. For instance I researched the university I was accepted to on a rolling basis, as well as the other 2 colleges I was applying to, and stopped researching UVA. I basically thought of it as not even having applied there and only considering the other 3 choices in front of me, knowing I would go to UVA if accepted and so it required no further research anyways.

Thank you very much!! I did see the deferred student info page but I still had questions. @hazelorb where did you send the letter in to? Just your regional admissions person’s email?

My counselor (physical/snail) mailed it in for me. This was 2005/6 though.

Awesome great! Also, my mid year reports were great, straight As, but I already had a very strong GPA, so what do you think they wanted to wait and see?

The only difference between an EA and RD app is mid-year grades. That’s honestly all we need right now. Your counselor can add updates on their mid-year report form.

Demonstrated interest is not a factor right now. Sending a letter is not necessary.

Ok Dean J thank you!

Dean J,

my daughter was deferred to regular decision also, and was interviewed for the Jefferson Scholar a few weeks ago. would she still be considered for the next round of the Jefferson Scholar? or being deferred doesn’t matter?
