I live in Northern CA and most of my classmates are applying to SJSU, SCU and the UC's. My school is pretty un-competitve, I'll be honest. I want to apply to some liberal arts colleges. Can any of you help me and tell me which colleges would be a fit? These are the colleges that I've been looking at:
Forham U
Colgate
Sarah Lawrence
Middlebury (at this point it's my first choice, and if it's still my first choice next year I'll apply ED/EA)
Schools of that calibur...
My parents want me to apply to some UC's. The only "up" I have is that my mom went to Cal
Any help is much appreciated!

bump bummppppppp please help?

icierair,
Have you talked to your GC yet? Since you're going to a small private school, they would likely have the best idea of where you would get in based on past experiences of students with a profile similar to yours.

That said, if you keep up your grades, take a challenging load, continue EC's and do well on your standardized tests, LAC's, particularly rural ones like Middlebury, Amherst & Williams will fight for an accomplished Hispanic student. My D is Hispanic and she just got back from a flyin to WUSTL and is going to Amherst at the end of the month. She got invitations from several other schools but can't take more time off of school.

I have a couple of thoughts about testing. First, you should be taking the PSAT for real this month. Do well and you can become a National Hispanic Scholar (lower cutoff than NMS commended or semifinalist). Doing that will get your name sent to many colleges that will be interested in you and it may get you some scholarships. Second, how about taking the SAT for the first time earier in the spring or in the winter? That way you have time to take it again in May or June if you need to. I would avoid taking it in the fall of senior year if possible as you'll be very busy and may be taking some of the college visits. You also need to keep either May or June open for taking the SAT II in USH.

Hope this helps, good luck!
