Help for an <16 Sophomore?

Hello CC-ers!

What I would really like to do over the summer is a science research program but in the unfortunate position of having a late (end of August) birthday, and most seem to only accept juniors, and if they do accept sophomores you must be 16 at the time of the program or at the time of application :(

Some alternate ideas I had were: Email professors and try to get an "internship" (i.e. test tube washer position), volunteering abroad, or one of those pre-college programs at an ivy (this would be my last resort)

Some background/limiting factors: Under 16 for whole summer, NOT a US citizen (green card), Reside in DC metro area, money IS an object (my parents would probably be willing to pay, but not an exorbitant amount)

Interests: Chemistry and Robotics especially, but really anything STEM is pretty much good with me (nothing that requires legit physics knowledge though, as I haven't taken a phys class yet). Political science/government is cool too.

Any programs you think I should check out? Thank you!!

you should google

I did google. Extensively. It just seems that every program I requires I be: 16+, a US Citizen, resident of a certain state, an URM, a rising senior, or some combination thereof (of which I am none).

I’m sure other people have been in this situation and am simply looking for some advice.

Try SEAP, it sounds perfect for you! There’s one in DC, you don’t have to be a citizen, and the requirement is 15+

https://seap.asee.org/participating_labs/us_naval_observatory__washington__dc_

^ I was in the same position as you (I’m a citizen, but yeah it’s really hard to find stuff if you’re under 16!) and I’m applying to SEAP. Not very prestigious, but it’ll give experience at least :)

Oh, that seems awesome! Thank you  Applications are due in four days though! Agh. I think I will try to apply anyway…I just hope I can get a reference quickly.

Could a math teacher work as a reference? Or should I ask my counselor?

Still open to other suggestions in case I can’t get an app in/am not accepted :)

Bump. I realized the SEAP thing I am eligible for is in Astrology…not my favorite, plus I don’t have enough time to fill out an application.

Any other suggestions? Pretty please with sugar on top (:
